Goodmorning ,
a tecnhician saw my mutoh vj 1304 yesterday and he said I need printing head and capping station replacement.I am thinking of doing it my self.I have the service manual.
Is it easy?Is there a tip I should know? Before removing the dampers, should I have to dicharge the ink from dampers by doing "The HeadWash menu"?
Any help appreciated ,thanks

Quit buggin' me
I have not done it but I did watch a tech change out mine.
It didn't seem to hard. Looking into the manual it lays it out step by step.
I think you do need a special tool/jig (PG height checking jig (VJ): JD-42806) from Mutoh to set the head to the proper height.
The tool is on page 10-8 of the maintenance manual.
You'd need to buy or make one.
If the cost is not too high I would let the tech do it - if a mistake is made he would have to buy a second head.

I have not done a head replacement on the valuejet personally but I have watched it being done and would feel confident to replace one myself.
Their is very little adjustment required as all 4 colours are on the same head.
I would replace the whole maintenance station as the pump and wiper assembly do wear and block up and would use a new genuine head cable also.
I noted the tech who did our head change did not do a head wash.
You do not have to discharge the dampers (well he didn't).
Main thing is setting the head up after installation eg: head rank etc.

Also the service manual does not tell you how to do a head change and is not very explanatory when it comes to this.
It takes into account that you have done this sort of work before and really is only telling you about new things that are encountered on this machine.

I am fully aware what you are doing as employing a Tech to come in and do this job is an expensive option and more than doubles the cost of the replacement. But for the first time it's maybe a better idea.

you need to be careful of the head especially the base plate itself, its simple first dismantle the old head, check the head cable first if the pins is not twisted or broken, attach it firmly to the slot of the head so "head heat error or head cable error wont appear, place the head to the carriage until it sits on firmly gently move the head right to left so that it will seat on the slot. ruling when changing new head: replace all dampers and make sure your capping station is working properly good luck:smile:

Thank you very much for your replies.
I have another question for you,if you can help me.
When I install a new head,is there something Ι should set in the printer menu. What is the head rank I read on many posts?
I found a new DX5 epson head and I was wondering if this is working on mutoh vj1304.
Any help appreciated,
Thank you
