Try using a pair of needle nose pliers. get a firm grip on the spit tray with one of your hands. this is to avoid putting to much pressure on the little nipple coming out of the bottom to which the drain pipe is attached.
Then gently but firmly grasp the plastic pipe with the pliers,right at the attachment point on the bottom of the spit tray. You need to get the bond between the plastic and the rubber pipe to break loose. GENTLY rotate the pliers while holding the plastic pipe in a rotary motion. Following the linear direction of the pipe. Clock wise and counter clock wise, {kind of like unscrewing a jar lid}. Once you get the pipe moving, it should be an easy matter to pull down gently and it should come free.
