My first proper shop! (moving out of the basement)

I just signed a deal for a new shop, and I'm really looking forward to moving out of the home basement in the middle of a residential area to a brand new locale right in the busiest and most expanding commercial area in the island I live in!

I started my own business about a year and a half ago, and my first big client, a construction company owned by a friend, has just put up a 4000 square feet building. 1/3 is office space and 2/3 is a garage with 25 feet internal height. We have talked for a while about me moving in when the shop was finished. They just took final delivery now over summer, and the shop is about ready for moving in.

I was promised use of the garage whenever I needed, really great as I had no real space at home. Here you can fit a semitrailer or a bus with no problem. It turned out that they also had a spare office, so we agreed on that I could rent the office and part of the garage.

The office is small, but the rent is equally low and will give me an opportunity to see if I can increase business by enough to justify moving out. I have no more space at home than I will have now, but I will have a huge install bay right outside the office, making things much easier in regards to work flow.

Right now all the office space empty, no signs on the building, no lettering on the doors etc. My hands are free to make it nice inside and outside :)

I took some pics, difficult to get the whole office in one shot on my Galaxy S3 phone, no wideangle lens on this, hehe.. But you can make out the layout. It measures about 3x5m. Installbay is 12x22m or about 2850 square feet. Dual 6m wide doors.

Really exited to use this month planning and building, and moving in early september :)

Looks nice. Never seen rear wound torsion springs for doors in a brand new building. Normally that's for a retrofit. Should be lots of clearance.

Crap!! At first, I thought I might have posted last night in my sleep. I have EXACTLY the same deal going with my new shop. Construction company, offices in the front (2 storys) and full use of the shop in the back. Crazy. I have the whole up stairs to my self and one office down stairs. Im still working on buying equipment and getting the shop set up. Planing to go back to signs full time the first of the year...

Congratulations!!

Thanks for the support guys! :) It will be great to move out and set up the equipment in a proper commercial building. Most of the local customer base (car dealerships etc) are located in the same commercial area, only a few hundred yards away, the placement is ideal :)

I have made a sketch on office layout, it will be a bit cramped but I will have space for all my current equipment. I have a Roland GX-24 plotter, and a worktable that is 28 inches deep, just right for 24" media. It has a glass top that I installed frosted vinyl over, also made a grid/ruler over that. The whole table is backlit so it can be used as a light table for making multiple layer cut vinyl. I have a transparent 1/4" cutting mat on the top. And roll holders for 70 rolls of 24" media underneath.

My Epson Stylus Pro 24" aqueous printer fits between the door, side wall and worktable, epson plotter and heat press goes on the last free wall, when my desk is facing the window.

Outside in the bay there will be installed a car lifter later on (by the owner, but I can use if when applying graphics on cars) like the one I used earlier when wrapping a Porsche this spring. This was at another friends car garage, but the car lifter is the same. Very nice to have, and saves my back from strain.

The whole outside area will be paved with asphalt next spring, but this fall they will make a concrete platter/area on the outside so you can wash cars and machinery without gravel being thrown up. They already have a dieselpowered highpressure washer/steamer in place, so washing cars before laying graphics can be done on site. Very handy with all the bad weather we have here :)

Looks great! Reminds me of the excitement we had when moving into our first, second, third and now forth place...

Phew! Moving sucks, but always exciting the first few days.
