Yep. I've seen that goof committed at least a few times in recent years.

The proliferation of smart phones and the mediocre cameras bundled into them could be partly to blame. The main culprit: lack of fundamental computer knowledge. You wouldn't believe how many people simply don't know how to manage the data in their computers. Show them Windows' File Explorer or Finder in a Mac and they would be lost. Knowing how to use "PrtScn" and the clipboard is a basic step above that.

I haven't seen it yet, but am sure I will at some point: a customer sending me a "screen shot" of an image on a smart phone screen, taken with the camera on another smart phone.

yes and although they are getting better, the cameras in phones do not provide the same quality as a good SLR. Just because they claim to be 5, 8 or 40megapixel the lenses are just not good enough to provide clear photos

Then there is the problem with shooting at an angle, low light, flash reflection, out of focus... the list goes on and on

I can only compensate so much for a poorly taken photo.

Oh, if the mainstream only knew about the snipping tool when it comes to screen shots.

The one thing that I just love getting a lot of is a picture of a previous embroidery pattern that isn't straight on with the design and the garment is all wrinkled. Yet, they still expect me to correctly digitize everything that is there. Heaven help me when they have the flash going as well.

I feel your pain.

The funny thing is some of these people who take photos of their computer screen don't want to bother using the PrtScn key and clipboard after you tell them how to do it. They're just more "comfortable" taking the more cumbersome route, often delivering extremely stupid looking results.

It's not exactly easy to take a good looking photograph of a computer screen, especially if a smart phone is going to be used to take the photo. The person will almost certainly have the image taken at some kind of angle, which keystones the computer screen. Even worse: that angle is affecting the screen's native pixel grid and it ain't gonna match up with the pixel grid inside the smart phone camera. It's a great recipe for moire -but that's as long as the image is in focus. Add in some wide angle barrel distortion for good measure. Oh, and the colors probably aren't going to be worth a hoot as the phone's auto white balance tries to make sense of the computer screen's output and the ambient light coming from overhead fluorescent lamps typical of an office setting.
