My spontaneous Christmas gift to myself...

...not even half a cup of coffee into the wait for my breakfast at the outdoor golf course cafe 5 minutes from my house, I realized today would be the last day I said "I've never hit a golf ball"

Here is the view of the driving range I've looked at during breakfast a number of times... & for a mere $2 I was able to experience a world class activity people come here for from all over the world... I try not to take this weather for granted... and today I had this extra opportunity to remember why I should be grateful for my home turf! :thumb:

about that view... if it looks like I'm looking down on mountains, instead of up.. that's because it's halfway true. What is also incredibly beautiful about the view from up where I live, is the Bi-Coastal view. The West Maui Mountains rise dramatically fast from sea level to 6,000 ft. I am at 3,000 ft above sea level, but in less than 4 hours i could follow the coastline all the way around that Mountain. If we could see the unobstructed view (which you can from many holes on this course) you would see the mountain all the way down to the sea, on both sides.

I stuck an xacto blade in the topographically correct model of the island that I ran on my CNC a while back, in case anyone is interested... I love the view, but thanks to things like GoogleEarth it's so cool to really understand where you are & what you're looking at... so I'll show the rest of you too. I shot 2 pics, both with the blad side pointing the direction of the photo!

no video???? that could have been your Christmas present to us all.
hahaha... you ain't kidding there...

ok, how about the play by play... the first 4 or 5 shots were nearly ground balls... but all but 1 or 2 of the next 20 got good lift... maybe 3 or 4 were line shots, possibly short of the halfway point... but I had some really nice fly balls to deep center... & I just loved holding the club up a few extra seconds (body english ya know ) while I watched that orb sailing for the fences... never hit the backdrop yet... but I was feeling like I got some perfect shots with my 7 iron... and I tell you this... it may have been my first day on a golf course... but it was ABSOLUTELY not my last!!!

Just beautiful ...how easy it is in the hussle and bussle of daily life to forget to take in the sights that's at some of our doorsteps. Makes me want to have lunch down on Sydney Harbour and make my way around to Bondi this week...thanks for giving me the nudge with your pic iSign.

Sure Doug, and I'm looking at the golf course in my back yard that has a fresh 20-1/2" snowfall on it. Enjoy the most addicting game in the world.

Doug, put the club down and slowly walk away while you still can. I'm a golf addict. Sometimes, I don't even want to play anymore--I just can't stop! It's worse than heroin.
