Need advice on hanging a wooden sign

Hello.
We are finishing our first sandblasted sign.
Its red cedar, 3 feet in diameter, around 40 lbs.
We need to install it on a pole. It is supposed to hang from the pole.

The main question is what hardware to use.
Is using eye hooks safe? Or should we weld a metal ring around it and hang it to the ring?
Chains or solid bars?

Yes, a few screws around the perimeter, 4-6 should do it.

I would not let it swing free- you will get rust forming where it moves on the eyes and the rust will run down the face. Tether it to keep from swinging.

I wouldn't "tether" it, either make it a fixed mount or let swing.

Just talked to the client.
They want two eye hooks and chains.

Should I put some epoxy in the holes before I put the eye hooks in?
And seal it with silicone maybe?

Chains? They want to hang it lower that just eyes and a an s hooks?
Here's the problem with that, and tethering, any extra play the sign has in the wind can
turn into a twisting motion which stresses the heck out of the fasteners and the support arm.
You either want a smooth swing from two strong points or a rigid install.
As for screw eyes into the wood, it's a recipe for failure. Wood can crack and rot, and drilling two holes
and screwing in a large enough screw eye to hold it can lead to either or both.
If you must, use the longest and strongest screw eyes you can, galvanized or stainless.
Drill a pilot hole and put some gorilla glue in it, then install the hardware.

Personally, I would insist on the metal ring with welded eyelets as Bill said,
but that should have been discussed prior to fabrication.
