Need advice - Yet another noob questions. Kind of.

I don't know. Kentucky Wraps was just saying if you don't know what your doing don't do it, and it was actually not that harsh, compared to some responses on this forum. Supergirl got a little mouthy with her response. Clearly he petted her the wrong way. Take advise from those that give it, but don't ***** cause you didn't get the advise you were looking for, or cause you have soft skin.

I wasn't talking about Kentucky....... his assessment was spot on. His delivery was perfectly appropriate. He's been doing it a long time and knows what he's talking about.

Too many people, as you said, take things far too personal and can't see the good advice they are getting. Far too many people want their answers in the form of sugar coating. Haven't ya ever noticed how many people will say..... if ya can't say something nice don't say anything or ya gotta start somewhere and all the other BS, which only covers up inadequacies ??

So, instead of taking the advice, they shoot the messenger, feel better about themselves and still don't know diddly.

No one is allowed to speak frankly. One has to choose their words carefully, or be known as a grump or something. Nowadays, you can ask, give bad advice, do stoopid things, think silly things and not know your a$$ from a hole n the ground, but OH NO........ don't be honest. For that we have certain rules of conduct.

^^ That is a reply that does not sound like a jerk.

Like i said, 1. he's a friend and knows it.

Everything i've ever printed was printed on white digital media and laminated. never attempted to print on opaque, thus my question.
Everything i've ever printed to wrap, was small enough that it didn't need to be tiled i.e. motorcycle panels, like you would need for a bigger vehicle.

So, my questions were kind of simple and reQ answered them beautifully.

My little cabbage [it's either that or 'silly fat cow'], you give every appearance of a being that is not in possession of a clue. Not only as to the business to which you aspire but as to how these sorts of fora function as well.

For the former; silver is printed upon all of the time. You have to consider the new white point provided by the media but once you deal with that, the results can be spectacular. How you should go about wrapping some artifact in your newly printed silver media is something learned through experience. You have yet to demonstrate that you know enough to be able to ask a good question.

For the latter; here in these and similar waters you put forth a proposition to which others may or may not respond. Moreover these others may or may not respond in some manner which might be helpful to your dilemma or not. You have no say in just who might respond and the manner of their response. More importantly, responding to and perhaps criticizing each and every response is Bad Form. This is not an "Am not!" "Are so!" elementary school playground argument.

You pose your issue and you accept what that proposition foments. Sometimes you respond to clarify, never to critique either the form or content of a response.

Now that there is some goooooood English. :)

Sadly, I have seen an increase of newbie bashing on this site. Not sure why. Perhaps business is slow for some. But I'm appalled at how many veterans respond to threads with negative comments when a simple question was asked. Yes, often the post does not offer enough detail to warrant a straight answer, but many times it does. And instead of answering a question to help someone improve their skills or knowledge base, comments must be made to fuel ones ego or perpetuate their bitterness.
In this case the OP was clear on:
-His experience level
-His equipment
-The Media he's familiar with
-A list of options that may solve the problem.
So I really have a hard time to understand why a response would have to be so negative, and most of all, not helpful in any way.
Please answer me this;
Why not just ignore the thread if you are offended by the question and feel threatened by another human trying to do what you do?
The only answer I can come up with is ego and bitterness.

Speedster calling "Supergirl" a guy is quite funny. A little Bruce Jenner-ish going on?

People forget this place is called signs101, which the meaning 101 means introductory.

Although, ugly people should not be able to say they're a supermodel and expect to get paid like one..

Well, at the rate all these nwwbies keep shooting the teachers between the eyes with a spit ball, is growing quite tiring.

Staying with the 101 theme, while the uneducated are permitted to show any emotions they want, the teachers are not allowed to be stern and direct ?? There is a big difference between being rude and being honest. However, there is little to no difference in a temper tantrum And a misguided person And many of these responses. I'm not saying the OP, in this case has done it, but the few posts here referring to bashing of noobie and other stoopid questions of late.... are just as bad.

How many kids come to class completely unprepared for class ?? Were they told of the day's lesson ?? We're they told to read certain chapters, practice specific lessons and study until they know it ??

So, when they don't know what they're doing, they come to class and upset the others. Who takes control......... the teacher or the student ??

That's all any of this is about. Someone asking a specific question...... or series of questions and others chiming in to help. Some teachers are harsh and some are easy, but in almost 99.9%, they taught, you learned and moved on. The teachers did not do the work for anyone..... even the stragglers. The side show antics went to detention for being dirsruptive.

I agree with some of your statements Gino, but if you look closely at many of these posts..including this thread. They are not chiming in to help; only berate. I see no evidence of assistance be it harsh OR easy.

I rarely check in at S101 anymore and I hardly ever contribute. This thread is a perfect reason why. Jaded veterans and entitled noobs don't mix well.

Edit > disrespectful entitled noobs.

Not to belabor a point or drag this thing on but, if you look at my initial response, only one question ( no berating ) was even directed at the OP specifically. That question went to the heart of KentuckyWraps response which was what prompted the rude, hostile and insulting response from the OP. I didn't find his response off putting in the slightest. Nor mine for that matter. Its really that simple. You have all this equipment and a customer base already, yet in three years time have only done a few installations on your primary customer vehicle type and none of any other.

My first observations were quite general about the frequent newbie questions that reveal very little real world experience at what it is most of us do all day followed by the frequent kneejerk hostility directed at anyone who doesn't trip over themselves treating the questioner with kid gloves.

My reaction was mostly incredulity at the lack of respect and humility coming from someone who has admittedly little experience wrapping anything let alone a full size vehicle. Wrapping a few motorcycle tanks and parts in three years time does not a wrapper make. If you want to treat someone like that as a peer, go for it. If you want to excuse her attacking both KentuckyWraps and myself personally, that's your choice also. Both he and I provide PLENTY of good, real world advice and tips to those that come here with a healthy respect and desire to treat others respectfully and with at least a minimum of humility.

When I signed up here to participate, there wasn't a contract or agreement that I had to speak to anyone in a certain way and I've only exhibited disrespectful responses to those throwing that dynamic into the ring first. I also didn't see a help wanted sign on the home page stating, "Sign instructors wanted" "No pay, no benefits and you will be confronted by frequent ingratitude and disrespect if you don't treat every OP with kid gloves."

I like many others come here for a lot of reasons including but not limited to offering help, conversing with peers, blowing off steam, posing questions myself, etc.....

This was blown out of proportions for no reason.

The questions were simple, so were the answers.

Last i checked, this site is not solely a "wrapping forum"

I also replied to you stating WHY i don't wrap.
I have been printing third year, cutting vinyl close to 5. Just because i didn't print on silver or wrapped a van or a car does not mean I am a complete noob, like you called me.

I offer installation of number plates to my (friends) and customers if I am at a venue. It tends to be quite a challenge, depending on the bodywork. But oh well.
I'm not here to defend my skills. (btw, the page that sells my number plates is a free joomla framework with a $50 template, i didn't "program" it.)

There are only very few of us in this business, providing custom shape number plates and I have shipped them across the US, canada and europe, in the past three years.

What bugs me, is the statement, if you haven't wrapped a car, you are a noob. if you haven't printed on silver before, you are a noob.

Never mind custom templating and drawing of hundreds of shapes to exactly match each given bodywork.
Printing and laminating using supreme materials (i could buy automark for quarter of the price).
race bikes don't last long, one season at most, but i decided to use best materials for my customers for this application.

While you were discussing here, i produced a ton of number plates and decals for the upcoming weekend. The season is starting in the midwest. It started in the south weeks ago.

so, while i still don't think i need to justify all of the above, calling somebody a newb for not wrapping a van is out of proportions too.

Thank you again to all who helped. I really appreciate it.

Not to point out the obvious, but what is the title of the thread? And who titled it that?

Kentucky Wraps

Kentucky Wraps
I see this as a community of people that is made of specialists, beginners, hacks, veterans, suppliers, undercover customers, and everything in between.
I have all of this in mind when I "chime in" on a post.
That being said...My initial answer may not have been aiming at "helping" the OP but it was aimed at helping the Industry as a whole including her "customer".
Based on initial info she gave, I assessed that it would do more harm to everyone involved if she pursued the task in the manner planned at the level she was at.
Upon further disclosure of said "customer" being aware of admitted deficiencies, my answer shifted from an "industry protective" tone.

My initial response was not exactly kind so for that...I own up to it and DO apologize to the OP. For the way I said it.
I hope not to add to the Ugly. But it's hard not getting protective of my hard earned craft.
