Need help CMYK x2 or CMYK -LM-LC-LK-O

My new JV300 is being installed on Tuesday Aug.11, 2015. I initiallytold the ssalesman that I wantedto go with the CMYK -LM-LC-LK-O because of the expanded color palette and better reds, darker yellows and of course orange but will the LM - LC -LK help with the blues? My blues seem to look purplish. Also how much better are the colors? I really don't need the speed of CMYK x2 but if the colors are not that much better I'll take the speed and run the 16 pass and take advantage of the MAPS3.

Any help I'd greatly appreciated

I have no direct experience with the Mimaki high ink configuration you are speaking about (CMYKcmkO). In general terms however, the addition of Orange ink to CMYK inksets will tend to expand the warm side of the gamut (Yellow - Red) but won't help with the cooler side (Blues and Greens). The light Black should make it easier to produce neutral grays, but won't add to the gamut in any significant way. Light chromatic inks (lc lm) improve highlights and quarter-tones, but don't add much to the overall gamut volume.

Blues that output as purple is a classic color management problem, and the addition of Orange and lk inks will not fix this. The ultimate solution is to put in place a properly implemented color managed workflow that includes accurate ICC device profiles for your monitor and the specific medias that you are using in production.

I think the differences with the extra colours are they help create much smoother gradients and less pepper speckling when printing colours and gradients. So better spot colours, better high res photos, better greys, gradients, more natural skin tones...

I am only going by my research, I have a cmyk machine.

Yeah I didn't think the orange would effect the blue but I was hoping the Lm-Lc-Lk would help I've used both Sign lab and Rasterlink RIP's.

I should've also mentioned my light blues look correct it's just the dark blues I have had issues with looking purplish. Ive never messed with color management work flow I assumed that the blues were just part of the gamut that I couldn't hit with CMYK.

Thanks

Check your CMYK values for the blues that are turning purple. You probably have too much magenta and it's pushing the color over in that direction.

If memory serves me correctly, you never want more than 20% more magenta than cyan. (or something like that)

Thanks I'll check that but these are not colors that I set the values of. These are from Sign lab's color palettes, either Spot, Process or even PMS palettes to me seem to have a purple tint to them.

Thanks

I would try a bunch of different profiles. I would also try messing with colour settings in the rip.
