need help with some lettering

I have this file that came as a pdf . It seemed harmless enough. A script font and looks OK. Thats where it ends... I printed this banner and hit the brakes about halfway through because this simple script was somehow designed in a way that it seems the designer thickened the stroke and converted it to an outline. the problem is that in the wireframe you can see this stroke info doubling back over itself and it prints like a checkerboard.
I tried welding it in Signlab but some parts refuse to join. I tried uncompounding it in Flexi but again it seems like the lines of the stroke have crossed over and somehow are connected to the main nodes of the font.

I am not sure if I can fix it or not....

I suppose I could search out the font but I doubt I have it.

What else can i do?

Open the pdf up in photoshop, save as a .tiff then open the tiff in illustrator and do a live trace and save as eps or whatever you want out of illustrator. That will fix the problem.

OK OK I went font hunting and I did have it after a 15 minute search. Thickened it up and am currently printing.

I know illustrator has the capability to fix this but although I have an older version I have never found the time to learn it. maybe it's time.... thanks guys
