Need ideas to try

Have a Roland Sp300 that gave the 0080 error. The previous owner Replaced scan motor then got the 0110 error code. Paid the Roland tech $150 to spend less then 10 minutes to tell him he needed to replace the rail and bearings for about $2000. He ordered the bearings and replaced them like many suggested. Error code was still there 0110. When I got the machine I noticed that the encoder strip was not in between the sensor, I cleaned and flipped the encoder strip. That got rid of the 0110 code, did the encoder setup and gave me the setup complete. When I try to do the encoder calibration or a test print it gives me a 0105 code. I have checked the limit sensor and it seems to be working. I have done the limit position initialize and it completes fine. The carriage will go through the cleaning cycle fine with no errors. When the error occurs it seems to always be in the same place about an inch or so from the lock mechanism. The scan motor and bearings were replaced by the previous owner. I have tried adjusting the scan motor and cable tension with the same results. After I got rid of the 0110 code and had the 0105 code I called the same only technician we have local to come out and service it. He walked up to the machine and slid the carriage and said you need a new rail and bearings to start with. That will be about $2000 and charged me $95 to do nothing. He never even tried to diagnose the problem. The carriage seems to be loose and smooth. Can it be the rail and bearings, the code doesn't make me think so. Please help me with any other suggestions.

Check connection between encoder board and carriage board
verify that belt is tight
replace encoder board
replace scan motor
replace servo board
replace main board

0105 is usually the fault of the limit position initialize either not done properly, or something amiss with the head lock or limit sensor. If it's able to set up and clean, the limit initialize is probably good.
