need suggestion for table top 5X10

I'm building my new work table. The size is 5X10. I was under the impression that I could find a plywood this size easily. Big mistake on my part. I wanted to use a 5/8 plywood. What do you suggest that is solid? The plan B would be 2 parts of material.

Could you seam the plywood then get a 5x10 cutting mat for on top? Either that or see if you can get 5x10 sheets of puckboard, that's what we use on most our benches.

I will put a cutting mat over it. So yes, I would seam two plywood. But If I buy a 4x8, I will have 3 seems then. I've never heard of puckboard. Do you have a link or a supplier that sell this?

We get it from Polymershapes in Winnipeg. Not sure if you have a local branch and if 5x10 sheets are even available, but we seam 4x8 sheets on our benches (Some of our benches are 5' x 8') and unless you happen to be cutting right on that seam it's not a problem.
We have a 5/8" or 3/4" plywood layer on our benches then puckboard on top. We'll lay a few strips of double sided adhesive down then put puckboard sheets on, and flip them over after a few months of cutting and use the other side.

We use 1/4" / 6mm puckboard and it has gotten a little pricey like everything else, but it works well. Not self healing like a cutting mat but you can cut into it all day long with olfa knives etc.

I'll try to take a pic of our benches when I get a second.

I was curious what puckboard was so I found this...exactly what the name implies!

can you get formica in any size? like home depot or lowes will cut it to the size you want?

We get it from a cabinet supply company. They have 2 thicknesses and you can get at least 5x12, maybe even 6x12. I said 5x10 by mistake, our tables are 5x12. The sheets aren't very expensive, 100-150 each. They have router bits to trim it, you can't use a regular saw or bit because it chips. Wear safety glasses too, the stuff will shoot sharp bits when you trim it.

It's time for us to get a new table. Of course I found one on steel sentry . com...it has all the bells and whistles. I put in for a quote and it's $5000. BUT, they did show specs on what they use. We can definitely build it ourselves.
my table top has warped over time.. I want a steel table top at least. we have a thin steel panel on top of the table and then a cutting mat. I like the steel because I can drop magnets on it when I need to.
