New printer connection help please!

I just bought the sp550i.
I’m trying to print with flexi and I am getting the dreaded can not open port message. I’ve searched on here and basically tried most of what I could find, turn off fire wall or allow flexi or production manager in fire wall settings etc. I’m not sure I have a pass through cable or not. It’s a blue Ethernet cable. I read mixed things that it should work with any cable.
I’m putting the ip address in production manager I see on the printer and it’s set on port 9100 I’ve also tried all other ports but still nothing. Thx !

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
The type of cable won't matter as Windows 10 can automatically sense which cable it is and adjust as needed. Your most likely issue is the computer's network is setup on a different subnet than the printer. The first 3 sets of numbers in the IP addresses have to match and the last one has to be different for them to communicate. So in this case I'm assuming the printer IP is something like 192.168.1.200 and the computer's IP is something like 169.254.1.2. So you would need to change the first 3 sets of numbers on either the printer or the computer to match. For example, printer IP 192.168.1.200 and computer IP 192.168.1.2.

Thanks. I’ll try to see if I can do what you’re saying. It’s a little confusing
I’ve had this issue years ago with mutoh but for some reason I remember it being different but somehow I got it to work.

Tried what you suggested but still getting the can not open port.
please post the ip, subnet and gateway of both the printer and the pc you have the software installed on

normally this becomes an issue when you move a printer from one office to another or if the cable company changes a piece of equipment

you will see something along the lines of:

192.168.1.100 IP
255.255.255.0 SUBNET
192.168.1.1 GATEWAY

FIRST 9 DIGITS OF IP (all but the last 3) need to be the same
gateway and subnet need to be the same

then we can scan or ping ip addresses to see what is wrong

stupid question, do you have a roll of media loaded?
you need to & have run setup.
if you do a cleaning, for example & leave at that screen, flexi will not "open port"

NO DOUBT this can not possibly work.

i still need to see what the computer settings are, BUT there is nothing you could put in on the pc to connect to that

(1) post the ip settings for the pc

hold down the "windows key" and tap the letter r (windows key is the one with the microsoft flat to the left of the keyboard
in the run window type cmd <enter>
type ipconfig <enter>

you will see something like

please post those numbers
ipv4 address
subnet mask
default gateway

(2) are you simply connecting directly to the printer ethernet to ethernet with a single cable?

(3) is this the pc you go to signs101 with? (in other words, does this pc get to the internet?

we need to know if this is the pc you are conversing with, before we change anything.

your printer does not need a gateway unless you are accepting print jobs from the internet.

IT DOES need a subnet mask.

I do use the laptop I’m trying to connect to the printer with to go on the internet and it works fine. I’m using my phone to go on this forum now. I’ll send the lap top ip info in the morning.

I recently had this issue, and tried everything under the sun. I wish I could remember exactly what I did, but it turned out to be a simple fix BUT I needed this network switch so that my internet and printer went through the switch and then had a Ethernet cable from the switch into my computer. I’m not saying that’s your problem but any other way would not work for me.
