New Seiko ColorPainter, size to get?

I am a Seiko dealer looking to install a new high speed Seiko ColorPainter in our showroom, I have two decisions that need to be made and am looking for some feed back from shops that would use this type of printer.
1) Install the 104" or the 74", which size would be easier to sell once it is time to move it out.
2) Install it as the high speed CMYK machine or the slower 8 color,CMYKcm & two grays for true monochrome printing. Is there a need for an eight color mild solvent printer?

Thanks

Been selling solvent printers since 2001 but I have never had one that had the option to do monochrome printing. Looking to get feed back form end users as to how important this feature is.
Thanks for the feedback

You'll probably sell more of the 74's. Install the monochrome so your showroom has the newest, flashiest thing going on. You can always change inksets.

I saw both configurations running at the Graphics of the Americas show. I can see why this would be a difficult decision on the ink set up. THe 8 color is very impressive and still fast. The 4x2 is smoking fast, and still very impressive prints. I would think the 100 is the way to go.

I'd think you'd sell the 74" CMYK printer faster than the 100" of the 8 color. IMO the majority of people buying solvent printers are probably after good looking color at sellable output speeds. For me anyway, these 6-, 8- or 12-color inksets are a turnoff, the color gamut is expanded somewhat, but not enough to make or break a job, but the consumables price goes up quite a bit. For the average sign shop, it's about throughput and consumables cost.

That said, there are certainly potential customers out there who will need a massive color gamut for demanding clients or projects, and are willing to sacrifice speed and lower ink expenses, so it's really a tossup. I do believe these people are in the minority though.

Pulled the trigger

I decided on the 74" with the eight color. Should have it installed in about a week, so if you are planning a late season ski trip to Colorado (we are expecting a foot tonight) stop in for a demo.

I tried to buy a printer he had listed in the for sale section here, had the money in hand, was going to Paypal it to him, he did not want to do that because of the "fee", so I suggested credit card he did not want to do that because of the" fee" (We are talking $2,400 here not a big Fee) so he wanted me to send it to him in a cashier check that was a little trouble for me but so be it so I asked for an invoice (mind you I did not know this guy other than him being a dealer here) he said he would send me one in about an hour that was 4-8-09 and 4 days later I still had not gotten it or heard a word from so I figured it was not legit anyways so I bought another printer from someone else (Also I forgot I asked for pictures and he said it wasn't on site and that would be a problem that was in an e-mail and then when I called him to make payment he said he needed it picked up right away because it was in his way and he needed the room... Si I was going to insist on pictures after he sent me an invoice but that never happened so I never got that far. I have talked with him further since then on the phone (I have another buyer interested in the same printer) and all I get it the run around.... SO TAKE THIS AS A WARNING STAY AWAY FROM THIS PERSON........THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG HERE!!

I only posted this because of his constant posts trying to sell something so take heed or not your choice..........

I would like to clear up the issues with this printer. First off I ask for a cashiers check because we have had trouble in past with stolen credit cards and bogus checks. Secondly I am wary of anyone who wants to send payment of any kind and expect us to ship that day (even a cashiers checks needs to clear, in fact I have two phony cashiers checks stuck on my wall) when you told me you had bought another unit I called the second highest bidder and he said he wanted it (at 400.00 less then you bid)
I am calling the actual buyer and tell him to feel free to pull out of the deal as I have not yet received his check, but he did read your post and may be concerned.
Nothing funny going on here, just trying to sell some used equipment and get paid in return. I have attached a link to a picture of the printer, ink lines drained, mounted on a skid and ready to go, as promised

I bought the printer, Robert is receiving the payment today and I have a freight company picking up the printer. I have had no problems so far, communication has been excellent and I have been notified of a small issue that was found.

I will keep everyone updated when the transaction has been completed and I have received the printer. I can understand on a deal like this that no CC or Paypal payments are accepted so I sent a Bank MO. I also have been once hit up with a fake Cashiers Check and the bank notified me 4 days later after I made the deposit that it was not legit!
