New "Smartphone"

I went from having a jailbroken iphone to an android on the T-Mobile network. My Iphone 2g was as fast as my newer MyTouch 3g smart phone, but I thought I couldn't live without the 3g speed. I miss my iphone. It was as SignManiac said, intuitive. It just seemed to do what you wanted it to all the time.

However, since you got an Android, I won't go into how much I miss my Iphone, i'll try my best to give you advice for the android.

You should see an icon there that says market. That's where you get your apps. The Android operating system has a lot of apps for just about anything you could imagine... and most of them are free. in the marketplace, you can select top free apps, or you can see the newest, or top paid apps. There's also a search bar at the top where you can type what you want, and it will make suggestions for you.

Phone settings can be a little more complicated, and are accessible from the home screen by selecting menu. You can turn on/off bluetooth and wi/fi there -- keepin them turned off will greatly improve your battery life. And you will probably notice your new smart phone eats batteries like crazy, so I recommend turning off those two features when you aren't using them. Android phones have "widgets" you can put on your home screen to make the process of turning those features on and off easier (you just tap the icon instead of having to go through the menu every time) but widgets will slow the performance of your phone to a crawl if you have too many of them. You can search for widgets in the marketplace - they are usually referred to as wifi or bluetooth toggles, and are free.

Hope that helps you out, sorry for writing a book, but I know a new device can take a little getting used to, and the people at the store are usually too self-involved to bother with helping you after they have made a sale.

Had a smart phone didn't use the smarts it had, the phone broke to many times for being un-breakable, so back to the dumb phone it answers, it calls , it does not break, it just makes me money for listening, and cost less too. lol

you mean like two cans and a string?
you know, the native americans invented the first wireless communication system, using smoke signals. i wonder if they had apps too.

You guys can make fun of my phone all you want  Lord knows that's how I felt before... but...

I am totally hooked... still a lot to figure out, but I never realized just how much stuff these phones do.

My husband is so jealous - he's the toys guy - not me... I don't see him waiting too long to get one

my husband and i have tmobile (i forge the name of the plan), but we don't have a contract with tmobile and i was able to set up payment arrangements on my phone (a $400 phone, that i'm paying $15/mo for)...if we cancel our plan, i just have to pay the balance on my phone....

I bought the Droid X when it first came out and love it! The things you can do with it are amazing especially for work!

One of my favorite things is the PDF viewer. This is great for on-site installs. I make a pdf of the file with measurements on it and on the phone you can zoom in as far as you want and the file is still crystal clear. No more looking for, or forgetting, the paper I drew up.

I have a client with 70 some locations, a while back I made a "My Maps" of the locations on Google maps. I now have that all those locations on my phone and with a few clicks I can call the store or even navigate right to it.

The 8mp camera is great, no more needing an extra gadget with me, and literally with one click after I take a picture it is uploaded to my Picasa album ready to be accessed from any computer.

I have started using my Gmail calender because it automatically updates on my phone, or vise versa.

Weather and radar that automatically updates to your location is awesome.

The Navigation is 10 times better than my Tom Tom was.

Free internet radio kicks arse.

There are so many things these phones can do these days is unreal!

I have the evo as well. switched to it from my iPhone. The evo is way faster a lot more customizable. I got the log me in app so I can remotely access my computer from anywhere and I was able to start printing banners before I even got to my equipment, along with vellums for screen printing. Saved me some time so when i got there all I had to do was hem. and burn screens. Probably shouldn't have been doing that while driving but...eh... lol I'm good at it. They have a grocery app too that has come in super handy. It syncs between mine and my girlfriends phone so we can add stuff to the list that both of us can see if we happen to run to the store or whatever. Then mark em off the list as you get items.
