NFPA signs

I'm replacing some NFPA signs for a customer that has a bunch of fuel tanks. I purchased these decals from a company that deals in this type of product exclusively (cheaper to buy from them, than to do them myself actually). The decals come without any of the numbers....these must be placed on the matching color code afterwards. They sell the number kits also, but hey....I can make them myself. Surprisingly the numbers were more expensive than the decals themselves. (fyi.... the diamond decals 18" x 18" overall, were only a couple bucks each).

So my question... They tell me for this size diamond, I need to use 6" numbers. The numbers on the original ones were quite a bit smaller.

Does this look right? I had to really squeeze them to fit.

Looks odd to me. I'm sure it'll work. 6 inches isnt even necessary. The previous size was bold enough to see. Can you use a thicker font?

Match the old. I can't tell you how many times I've received type specs that will no way in hell fit......especially from Government agencies and the like. Where the hell do these people come from?

Doesn't look the same, but you've already answered that question. I would probably reduce them a little bit in height and add some 'oompf' to fatten them up so they resemble the old ones a little closer. They now look like they have rickets.

I have had a little experience dealing with EPA & DOT regulated signage. Typically they don't leave any wiggle room. If they say 6" (no matter how rediculous it looks in the available space), then 6" is what you use.

I have not seen enough of these signs to know.....nor do I know which agency would be the pricks to enforce them. :ROFLMAO:

Has anyone ever seen the guy who measures numbers on these signs, that is the government job I want.

Happens every day. This particular company will be having their "Environmental Inspection" done tomorrow. I can almost guarantee that guy will have his tape measure in hand. The question is....how big of a prick will he be?

I'm not sure if these need to be 6" high, but if thats what they are supposed to be (and aren't), they could get a big fine.

I got on that website Signage..... they wouldn't offer any advice unless I joined the NFPA for $150 a year....haha.

Now, I do know they have "recommended" sizes for the many different sizes of these signs they make. For this particular size, they told me twice (and its also on their website) to use a 6". I finally called them again, and explained that a 6" dosen't fit. The girl I spoke to THIS time, said that was a mistake (and also on the web).

She said a 4" is what is recommended. Now this looks better.
Gawd, I love wasting time dealing with people that don't know their own products.

Ive learned from prior experiences from dealing with companies like this before my printing career that usually they read the exact same thing you can on their website. If its wrong on their site, the info they know is wrong.
