Niagara Falls

Taking a little trip over Easter weekend with the family. 3-4 days
Any recommendations for Hotels, Restaurants or Activities?

Never been there...

My short research search stay on the Canadian side, much better.

Kinda leaning towards the Hilton Niagara Falls Hotel and Suites.

I heard something last week that the Canadian side is much better, but that hotels and restaurants will hotels will hit you with 20-30% extra taxes. The advise I heard was you can tell them you won't be paying it and they will take it off.

Have been to both sides many times. They both give you the same thrill. Stay in a nice hotel in Buffalo, not Niagara which is not really a nice town. Better food in Buffalo. Also the Martin house by Frank Loyd Wright is a must visit. They have also opened up the caves they built to channel water for the hydro electric back in the turn of the century.

You say 'family' so I am assuming kids. How old are they and what are your interests?

There is a restaurant in East Aurora NY called The Globe - fantastic steaks. Also, when in the area get a Beef on a Weck (spelled correctly, it is a type of bun) sandwich. It is roast beef with horseradish sauce and is a local specialty.

Last time I went, on the Canadian side, right at the Falls there was a very tall, circular needle like structure.
I ate at a restaurant at the top floor and it rotated very slowly during the meal and gave a 360 degree view of the entire surroundings.
Fantastic beyond description!
Also spend some time along the Canadian side of the falls that is right at the point where the water comes over the horse shoe falls. WOW, what a breath taking sight!
Enjoy.

Maid of the mist boat ride. As you board the boat, you are given a rain poncho. You go as far to the falls as you can. When hubby and I went the water spray was extreme - so extreme I had to take off my glasses. Love it. There is also "cave of the winds" Stay after dark and see the lights on the falls.

Horseshoe Falls is the more impressive of the two waterfalls. It can be viewed on either side (on Goat Island on the US side or across the Niagara River). I think the view of Horseshoe Falls is better on the Canadian side. The observation points get you fairly close to the edge. It's incredible watching the sheer volume of water going over the falls.

Do people have to have Real ID compliant drivers licenses or other identification to cross the US/Canadian border? It has been a long time since I visited Niagara Falls; back then it was pretty easy to cross the border.

We ate in that same restaurant, back in the late 80s. That's was really neat.

Make sure you go, after this goes away

Yeah, that picture is like 1912 or around there. Interesting fact, when getting this picture. I knew it had frozen several times, but the last time it froze over was I think 2019. Since 1848 or so, it's frozen over several times, but mostly on the American side. Both sides is rare.

The rules today are as clear as mud. A Nexus card, a FAST card or a passport would probably be minimum requirements.

Plenty of wineries in Niagara not too far from the Falls.

Clifton Hill is a busy place with arcades, and other stuff to do.

Wild Bird Kingdom is a cool place and is a short walk north of the falls.

Someone may have mentioned the new Niagara Parks Generating Station that just opened up.

Avoid some of the restaurants right in the tourist area as they will take your house.

If you don't mind leaving your kids to run around the parking lot for a few hours there's the casino. Just don't get caught.

Niagara On The Lake (NOTL) is nice to stroll around and go through the shops. Though it can be busy on weekends. The NOTL golf course has a nice restaurant overlooking where the Niagara River flows into Lake Ontario.

There are jet boat rides that run out of NOTL as well. They run the lower Niagara River and can be pretty exciting.

If the kids like go-carts and mini-putt then go to Go-Karts Niagara. Buy tickets online for a better deal - https://www.gokartsniagara.com/ Do not go to the Niagara Speedway as it is a small fortune.

Plenty of nice golf courses run by Niagara Parks as well as others throughout the area.

The Niagara Botanical Gardens also has a butterfly conservatory.

That's all I got!

When I was a kid and went with my parents, one evening we put a blanket out on the grass nears the falls and the Parks Dept lit up the Horse Shoe Falls for everybody with different color flood lights.
Back in 1966 that was pretty big stuff and considered a highlight of the trip.
I don't know if it would hold the attention of today's youth for more than a minute or so.

Ya think that long, eh ?? I don't think today's kids would even wanna go look at them. Just google it, see them on their cell phone and go back to gaming.
