Night or Nite?

I have been seeing this more and more on things lately. They will use "nite" instead of "night". In my word it does not correct it as being misspelled, but it still does not seem right to me.

I have a client that has "all nite Friday nite" on his menu, has "all night Friday night" on some fliers.

He wrote down nite on the paper work for me but I am curious what everyone thinks about nite and night.

I always use night if it's left up to me.

I've always viewed it as a more casual laid-back spelling, as such it works in some cases and not in others, I would be fine with it for a bar or pub, but wouldn't want to see it on the sign at my doctor's office.
