not sure if this a win update issue

I ran a full windows update last week after going back to a new restore point due to some trojan that infected the machine..... I know there was a warning about fonts due to the latest updates, but I have not seen anything yet.
I am locally networked with my printer computer which I keep offline from the internet.

Yesterday and today after booting up both computers I get a warning in the printer comp that something to do with an IP address controller issue. All I know is that I cant move files to the printer computer from the main comp (where the updates were done and where the trojan resided). If I reboot the main comp then the network connection seems to work again.

Any idea on what may be causing this? Could it be one of the updates? The printer comp is win xp and the main comp is win 7

Its a 7 to XP issue, for whatever reason when DHCP is employed on a network with both OS on it the computers sometimes lose communication link. If you manually set your network info it seems to alleviate the issue (at least it has in our situation).

well it was working for 2 years until today.... system restore did nothing, so it was not an update issue.... How do I restore the network? I have no clue
