Oil drips on L25500 _anyone has same issue?

As you can see on the pics, there is a quite a lot of oil on the substrate. I'm wondering where is it coming from.
It could be the carriage rail, but I do not put a lot of oil there when I clean it.

I purchased used HP L25500 few months ago and I have been seeing this since. It is quite bad if the material sits in the printed for a few days (I do not print every day, small shop. The pics were taken after the printer was sitting for a 5-6 days). Sometimes, I will have discoloration through the print due to the oil drips, a little streaks that are not as noticeable but I would not do a wrap with a print like that.

Please let me know if you have a slightest idea on what would cause this.

Thanks

Yes, its common. High humidity makes it more common.

we get it after printing complete rolls when the printer dries.

That is weird. I'm home based, have all my equipment in my basement and have 2 dehumidifiers running.
Humidity does not go over 50, even in the worst summer days. It peaks maybe at 55% for a short time.

When leaving it printing at night just clean it before leaving and you should be able to avoid it. Usually the oil cleans easy form prints anyway with no damage.

It is in the print zone. It seem that it is coming of the top pinch rollers, but I do not know how it gets there

Anyone else??? I had another print last night destroyed by this.
It seems that it comes of the "rollers" that are right under carriage shaft.

I'm pretty new to this printer and I'm not exactly sure if there any other way that oil can get there apart from when the carriage shaft is oiled.

Thanks

It definetly looks like someone used way to much oil to lubricate the rods and the carriage. There are a couple different places you are supposed to lubricate during maintenance. The top bar, the bottom bar and next to the bottom bar, attached to the carriage rail are these little felt pads. That look like this

These wrap around the lower carriage rail and your supposed to lubricate them directly. It sounds like this is where your issue is coming from. The felt could be worn down some and needs to replaced and since it didn't collect the excess oil anymore it is dripping onto your prints

but, you said that if the media sits in the printer without it printing you will come back and there are oil drips on the print. This means its dripping from inside the printer above the carriage. The only that could be that I can think is some sort of build up in the printer from the drying process, but it shouldn't leave drips. I would check on my own to see what the felt looks like and let me know.

Unfortuately the company closed and I no longer have it, but at one time I had a technician manual for the L25500 that was what HP would use to fix your printer. It was a digital version and I shared it with a lot of people on here so someone has to have it. That will tell you step by step how to change anyting in the printer. Motherboards, buttons, belts, anything. I would look here
http://www.signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?87442-HP-L25500-Technician-Manual

at my old post and see who I sent it to and ask if they can send it to you.

Got any other questions let me know. I will try to help.

HP oil problem

Oh yeah, looks like someone has DRENCHED your carriage rails with lube oil.
Look at the very ends of your rails, there is often a BIG clump of hair/dirt/fibers there.
If that has built up, it would still retain the remnants of the initial oil deluge, and would drip more the longer it was left to sit.

Look inside, wherever the rails run, and see if there isn't a oily sponge of hair/dirt/fibers.
Might even be stuck to the edge of the carriage, which would be why you get drips all through your prints.

I don't think there is an inner oil reservoir on these HPs, so the oil was very likely introduced.
I'm betting there is somewhere inside your machine still covered in oil, dripping on our prints.
Would probably happen more when the machine is hot (printing).

Please reply with any info. We are considering getting an HP 26500.
Good Luck!

Yup, got the felts in the mail yesterday and installed them last evening.
I think I found the reason for the dripps, the old ones we soaked and DIRTY as you can see in the pic.

One question, the pack came with 2 big felts that I replaced and it came with another 2 smaller ones. Where I can find those ones in the printer?
I have looked into the maintenance manual, there is nothing in there about the felts, big or small..

Thats for the help everyone.

Those defietely look like it was time. There are two rails that the carriage slides on. A larger and a smaller rail. The other two felts are located on the side of the carriage where the other rail enters the carriage. They are a little harder to see but they are there.

Do I have to take the cover off to replace them?
There is no way I can get to them as I go to the bottom rail ones. I thought that they were at the top rail, but I could not see anything there from the front. Even with my head in the opening

From what I remember no. I don't believe we had to remove anything other then a couple parts on the carriage. I believe you should be able to see a tiny piece on the right hand side.
