Omegabond color inconsistency issue.

this one is not cool.

i have this 11' x 4' interior sign (a diptych). assembling it and i'm walking around and i'm pretty sure the two sheets don't match at the seam. it's just different enough that this picky client will reject.

i didn't use dibond because, dibond brushed metal finish is just too bright and too glossy. it doesn't look good in high end office environments.

in order to fix this, i'll probably recut the smaller piece (4x4 on the left side of the sign). has anyone had color/flash difference issue with omegabond? will it be an eternal crap shoot to get a
matchine pair?

i work with art that employs lots of different reflection angles. i believe the coating is slightly different. one minutely shinier than the other causing it to filter the blue one and not on the other. i'll be digging through scraps and experimenting with how to avoid this. a new sheet plus cutting and fitting is about a day's work, or at least a day's distraction.

You are exactly right. When I first working with brushed aluminum I thought I print directly on the bare metal. It turn out that each manufacture coat the metal with some kind of lacquer. Dibond product seems to be the best choice for UV adhere because their coating is thicker but does have a problem of showing the ghost image of the Dibond logo where you have a solid area of printing over it. I wonder if you find any issue with Omegabond product besides the color different?

thank you Reece Supply!

shout out to Mike Hovey at Reece Supply!!!

he looked at my drops from this project and noticed the faint difference. unfortunately, instead of me getting a sheet that matches side A or B to my sign. the omegabond in stock introduced a
third even warmer metal color.

so Reece gave me two new sheets as a replacement. and i have to cut the entire thing again.

omegabond is a bit more sophisticated looking than dibond but evidently not terribly consistent in color. not an issue until you butt up edges.
