one more about cutting surface

hi there

I'm getting ready to open the shop and the layout is far from perfect, so I've decided go a different route about my work table.

I know abou self healing cutting mats, but here are rare and if you find one be ready to give a lung or kidney to pay for it. My next 2 choices are glass, which is expensive too, but I'd like to ask you about my second choice which is cheap and durable, but not sure how good it can be, and that is a wood table covered with a galvanized steel sheet. I work alone, so being able to use magnets it's a plus, and even if it doesn't last a long time is cheap to replace.

Let me know if I'm wrong about that, I'd like to avoid having to shell out the money for a big piece of glass.
