Anyone know if there is a big difference between the Bulletin colors and the lettering enamels. We usually use the lettering enamel for everything. We have painted sign backgrounds and posts with it for ever. Everything lasts a long tome using lettering enamels. We just got a job painting a bunch of 40,000 gal propane tanks. I priced out paint and got Bulletin paint pricing by accident and it was double lettering enamel price. Is it better paint, longer lasting or what? Haven't used their other paints much, whats the Bulletins application. Bulletin is available in 5 gal cans and thats a bonus.

Bulletin paints originally were for short term outdoor signs, mostly like bulletin boards, hence the name. Bulletin paints are generally pigmented heavier and dry faster than lettering enamels. Less colors are available in bulletin even though you can make your own colors by mixing and boxing them. Now that the lead has been removed, I don't trust either or for long term.

If you're set on lettering paints, instead of industrial paints, Ronan might be a better idea for your painting.

Yes Bulletin is for short term, lettering long term

Would go with a Sherwin Williams latex

...Better still automotive paints be the best long lasting wear

if you want longevity of the background paint.........especially on a metal tank, why are you even considering LETTERING PAINT? go to NAPA,(sherwin williams automotive)and get their INDUSTRIAL METAL PAINT!!!!! tanks that big will require a lot of paint, and if not put on right, will PEEL.........if i were you.......i would leave the TANK PAINTING TO THE OWNER OF THE TANK.........not your job description...

actually bulletin colors contain less pigment and are only designated for two year use,....you may want to read the label a bit more carefully,....for propane tanks I would suggest an industrial enamel such as the glidden barox brand or devoe equivalant for best longevity, reason I know this is we repaint signs regularly and pay close attention for the paints that hold up best at the track yearly and those brands have held up better than 1 shot, ronan and rustoleum in the sun here in the Carolina's for the past 4 or 5 year span..stay away from the safety red and yellow if possible,...the blues whites and most of the other colors hold up quite well
