Onyx 19 in profile settings

Hello!

im using onyx 19 and valuejet 1604. i got rip profiles from distributor.

When printing paper posters i dont need such quality, and i would like use less ink and increase speed. Paper profile is default set to 720x720, Graphic 2, 8p, bi, 320cps

So, i did a little research around profiles settings and find out, that i can print in 540x720 resolution, Banner 2, 6p, bi, 320cps. Im satisfied with colors and specialy with speed. But i dont know, does it use less ink or same as on 720x720 setting, Graphic 2, 8p, bi, 320cps?

And what about "printer settings" on profile, if i change quality mode to Banner 4, 4p, bi, 320cps. Default is Graphic 4, 8p, bi, 320cps - does it use less ink ink or more?

Thanks for info.

To get a specific color printed on paper, vinyl or whatever, with transparent CMYK inks, you need a specific amount of ink.
If the printer adds more or less ink, hue, lightness and saturation will change.
Therefore, it shouldn't really matter what resolution, speed or number of passes you use, because the total amount of ink must always be the same.

At least that's how I understand it. :)

Few passes is faster but increases the risk of banding and the ink dots are most likely bigger but fewer.
(May differ between printers, inks and techniques)

The visual appearance should theoretically be the same though, at least from a distance.

More passes, less y-axis movement and less ink per pass. For example 12 passes x 1 millimeter/pass x 2 "units" ink = 24.
Fewer passes, more y-axis movement and more ink per pass. For example 4 passes x 2 millimeter/pass x 3 "units" ink = 24.
