Oracal 631 on eggshell paint??

Sign_Boy

New Member
I’ve read a few threads on installing Oracal 631 on drywall.
I saw talk of satin and gloss finish paints but couldn’t find anything that mentioned installing it on an eggshell finish.
Has anyone done this before or does anyone know if I’ll have any failure issues?

Also what transfer tape would you recommend? (4075-RLA?)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

you can do it, but it's only a short jump from flat paint. testing it will be the ideal way, and a wall wrap vinyl will probably be the best course. the matting agent in the paint will be the biggest concern ... if they just a chalk base ... won't stick worth a darn.

What type of wall wrap vinyl?
Keep in mind this will be all cut vinyl - no printing.

I agree with a test first - I'd hate to pull paint or have the graphics end up on the floor the day after the install.

Thanks again

Wouldn't be able to tell you the type of wall wrap vinyl sadly, mactac apparently makes a good one, I just have never used the stuff.

As for cut vinyl, because of the aggresiveness of the adhesive ... probably intermediate ... will leave staining if removed though ... and if they didn't use a chalk or gypsum based eggshell (the cheap ****) ... you can use high performance just use a 5-7 year like oracal 751 and use a heat gun before you remove transfer tape to try to heat activate the adhesive into sticking properly. Basically just casually going over it to slightly warm it up ... remember a heat gun is also known as a different name ... a paint stripper.

I lay alot fo 631 on eggshell. It is a slightly tricky to take off transfer tape when you initially stick it BUT it does adhere well. I use R tape conform series. and do make sure that paint is at least 3 days or more dry. I have actually painted walls and went back next day to try and install vinyl and it is absolute hell to hang onto wall and take trasfer tape off

you do not need high performance for this

we just installed a chit ton of 631 last week in a 400 foot corridor, sticks great! as for the tape, we used the Oratape it reccomends in the book, it's very high tack and a bit of a pain to pull off, but the matte finish on the vinyl needs hi tack to grab the letters.
