Not wanting to mix up topics even though they are related. When I print in Oracal 751 (651 never is a problem) I always get fish eyes in my prints. What cast DO YOU recommend and have had good luck with?

Suggest Gerber Vinyl. Have you tried cleaning the 751 with alcohol prior to printing?

We ran Oracal 751 for several years and finally threw in the towel on it after they made some unannounced changes that effected thermal printing on it. What we found was that black foils in particular would not print correctly on the 751 while other colors would. Yyet the same black foils would print just fine on other colors of 751. We phased them out and returned to Gerber/3M 220 Scotchcal and have not had any problems with that choice.

I use mostly Apex/Duracoat with a full stock of GSP foils on the shelf when needed.

i only print gerber foils (especially for a cast material)....i reserve the 09 and colorset foils for temp signs like golf tourneys and such....maybe that's the difference.... when you're talking about this print problem....are you printing gerber or other foils on the 751??

In our case you need to realize that we had been using 751 for at least two years when we started having problems. We were able to substitute Gerber's spot black to finish the job but were troubled by the change. We wondered if other 751 prints might fail prematurely even though they appeared fine when coming off the printer.

Our experience with Duracoat foils has been excellent and all indications are that Duracoat is equal to or superior to Gerber's foil line at less than half the price. Our choice seemed obvious since we use a lot more footage of foil than vinyl. We opted to stay with the foil and upgrade our vinyl to the proven Gerber/3M vinyl.
