Outdoor rated, inexpensive engine turn gold "vinyl"

Anything out there besides the genuine gold stuff that's rated for 12 years?

Looking for an alternative to lower the cost of a job for a client, but something that's got a better outdoor life than 2-3 years.

Any suggestions?

The thing is, when it comes to true gold stuff, there isn't an in-between. It's either cheap and will start looking bad well before 2-3 years, or you have to go with the good stuff...

Customers don't always LIKE to hear the truth, but that doesn't change the truth...lol

R-Tape has a series of outdoor durable golds that look kinda like signgold for a lot less, and last 2-3 years

Boat people are funny, they can spend hundreds on day on the water but don't want to spend a few hundred on lettering......

As an alternate I have made some diminsional boat letters on a router that was Brushed Gold Alum with a black sintra core. mounted to the fiberglass hatch with studs drilled through.

This for a boat? If it is I would stick with real SignGold.
And my experience with boats is the opposite, they will spend on their
ego toy when they wouldn't on a business sign.

Get you a small piece of SignGold, scan it with a high resolution scanner (along with a color chip for color matching), step and repeat the scanned image until you get the size you need. Print the image and laminate it, now you have what looks like SignGold for a cheaper price, and will last as long as you media/laminate specifications.

Honestly...some of you guys confound the hell out of me.

To those of you with useful responses, thank you. I appreciate you replying in an effort to helping me find an alternative for one of our clients.

I used the cheap stuff once and it turned black within 1 year. Don't cheap out or it will come back and bite you.

I like Leo's Gold Lion products, they seem to hold up well long-term on firetrucks as long as they are laminated with 1/8" over-extended lamination around the graphics. Everything else (like VinylEFX) is cheap but hold up decent on flat surfaces (again laminated), but don't hold up for poo on curved surfaces.

Firehousedecals.com has some alternative materials they have been trying to sell me on, but I have not had long-term experience with it.

Is the project a firetruck?

You need to be specific. There's lots of "gold" that shouldn't be used outside and most that are for outside need to be laminated or cleared.
I have used Rtape Vinyl FX Outdoor Durable with good results.
I clear it with frog juice. No it's not the same as signgold or as handgilded both of which I also use, but it's a good economical solution as long as the customer knows the difference.

I agree!

You and your cheap A$$ so called client???

You both need to stop trying to expect something for nothing.
Either pony up the cost of QUALITY products, or have the respect for this industry and refuse to attempt to provide services that can only be done with quality professional materials.

In this case, and many we all see every so often, the prospect is never going to be satisfied with whatever you provide that is less than the Best possible selection of product, time and talent that you can provide.
To sell into that type of eventual disaster is self destructive.

Leave it alone, WALK AWAY!
