I was talking to a supplier that told me that the pigments for paints are getting low since the disaster in Japan. Does anyone know if this is true or is it a ploy to raise prices?
I know that a company I do work for was getting raw materials from Japan and is having issues getting those for products, (not paint). They also deal with paint so I will ask the owner when I talk to him later today.
i think its bullcrap. the stuff that makes paint colors.......is found here in the USA as well as abroad. google PIGMENTS & DYE. look at this: http://www.earthpigments.com/products/pigments-by-color.cfm?gclid=CIeKzM6Pn6oCFacaQgodTn336A
in ceramics, colors are made from OXIDES & DI OXIDES.
IRON OXIDE=RED
COPPER OXIDE=GREEN
COBALT=BLUE
mixing of these will produce different colors just like mixing paint will.
We use Lithichrome Shadow stone paint (black) and have seen some short-supply issues this past spring. My supplier (a well-known granite & stone supply company) happened to utter the words "lack of pigment"...but he wasn't sure where it was sourced.
