perforated aluminum Printing

We're working on a job to put signage on the "scaffolding" that they
use for TV cameras at a football stadium. They want permanent signage
that won't catch the wind too bad. I'm thinking that printing directly to perforate aluminum sheets
and clear coating with liquid UV protection is the ticket, anybody print to this type of aluminum or have
an idea for another option?

Thanks

Thanks Pat,
Yeah that's the way I wanted go too, but they have used mesh banner material before
and had issues with it tearing and such, The only other option I could think of was perforate aluminum sheets.

it sounds like they are rough with the material especially if they are tearing mesh banner. not sure that perforated aluminum will hold up any better.

I think it has to do with it being exposed to the elements, not UV protected,
and because it's not hanging flat against a wall, after the material becomes brittle after
a year or two, starts to rip. Below is pictures of a similar scaffolding & and a illustration of the perforated aluminum.
(I'm assuming there isn't rule about using a protected image to show an exsample, if there is I will remove it)

The question is, can the scaffolding hold that kind of weight hanging from its extremities?

Have you thought about paneling the mesh banners so that there is webbing along each of the poles to prevent tearing?

Give these guys a call. Former client of mine, great company, and does a ton of Athletic field netting and windscreens. They have facilities on the west coast and one in metro Atlanta. Might be a good fit for long term... Ask for Matt.

Aluminum isn't exactly heavy so I don't see what the problem would be. Depending on the thickness obviously. For comparison, our 1/8" acrylic sheets are 25 lbs and aluminum isn't that much heavier than acrylic. That's also before you remove 40% of the weight in holes. I would guess they'd only be about 30 lbs for a 4x8 sheet or about 1 lb sq/ft.

Only problem with aluminum that thin, especially riddled with holes, is that it's very prone to impact and will retain any dents put into it.

It will never shrink or expand and never need to be adjusted or tightened and as long as it's out of reach of angry football fans I don't see why it wouldn't be your best option.

Edit: Plus a rigid substrate like aluminum can be re-used if they ever want to re-brand. Sand off the ink and reprint. Ez.
