Permitting - UGH!

I work in an area that almost everything has to be permitted. Even a simple face change or update. Currently my permits with the county are going on 4 weeks - no problem with the signs or permits, just not getting through the system in a timely manner. On the other hand, we put in a permit last week with the City and got it back this week.

Just curious as to how long it takes to get permits approved in your area?

Unless you're going for a variance or a designated area like historical district, usually a day or two. Some of the smaller municipalities tend to take longer because like everyone else, they're all low on funds, so they are working with a smaller base and some of these codes people are part-timers and can't get to everything as quickly, like years ago. I found, just be polite and nod all the time and say, whatever ya can do, my customer and I sure appreciate it. Thank you.

hahahahaha... I pretty sure that they shuffle your permit back to the bottom if you even ask about it around here

I tell my customers 8 to 10 weeks! I once waited more than 3 months for a permit for a monument sign on Clearwater beach. (They HATE signs)

Generally the county is two weeks and the city is one week. Fastest I've ever gotten a permit approved is two days.

I cover the entire state and pull permits all over. Fairfax county is the worst. You go to the 7th floor to get approval to submit a sign permit, then go to the 4th floor to submit the application, then you have to sit in a waiting area which is about 45 minutes until your number is called, they review everything in fine detail and ask stupid questions like how many LEDs are in each letter. Then after all of that, you take a piece of paper to the 3rd floor cashier, then go back up to the 7th floor to get another piece of paper, then go back to the 3rd floor to the cashier. After that everything is completed and it takes 3 weeks or so for approval.

I KID YOU NOT!
