We like to use GF Poly for posters that need a little more durability than paper can offer. The only thing to worry about is properly drying the prints. The GF Poly tends to get very gummy when solvent printing, and if left tightly would on a core, it'll bond to the front to the back and create a giant solid slug. We UV print these most of the time now.

We print posters for our snowboard apparel customer on Oracal 3164 and cut it to the edge of the graphic so it's just a nice thick glossy print. They LOVE the outcome and the way the colors pop...waterproof too. I usually send them this route instead of using photo paper. They can still frame them like a normal photo and leave the backing on it.
