PMS 725 and 730 vinyl / print

I've searched everywhere looking for vinyl close to these colors. PMS 725 and 730. I have also tried matching with the roland color library and nothing seems close enough. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried plugging in the CMYK values and printing test swatches? The PMS to CMYK equivalents are both pretty close in my swatch book...

PMS 725... 9/75/100/55
PMS 730... 10/55/83/35

When I run into color matches like this I'll make a series of 5-10 1" x 1" swatches with the first one being the actual PMS #, then tweak the values on the remaining swatches. Send em down to print, compare to pantone swatch then tweak some more if needed.

I guess in a perfect color managed world you wouldn't have to go through all these steps but it works for me. (eventually)

great idea Pat, I'll try this.:goodpost:

thanks, but apparently these are corporate colors and they are not accepting substitutes..... GOD forbid these designs spec colors that exist on the stock vinyl charts.....

Designers rarely spec vinyl colours. Vinyl only has a fraction of the selection compared to the Pantone library, so you have to let the customer decide whether anything in your vinyl swatch book is close enough, or if they want to pay more to get it printed. Then, printing doesn't guarantee a perfect match either.

Tips for Roland printing:
  1. Use the profile that matches your media (get the profile from the manufacturer site - don't use the generic Roland profiles)
  2. Try different Colour Management settings in Versaworks. If you want to try the advanced settings (Rendering Intent), Colorimetric and Perceptual are the ones to try first.
  3. Try printing the RGB version of the Pantone colour - the way Versaworks converts RGB colours gives you a bit wider gamut than CMYK sometimes.
  4. Try the CMYK and RGB codes from your Pantone book AND from the Illustrator swatchbook - they're slightly different.
This can all be very time consuming, but the first couple times you do this you'll probably learn a LOT.
