polyarc / polygone ?

I see in Signlab under general preferences these 2 selections.... Honestly I do not know what the difference is and why I have to select one. Can anyone make sense of it?

The only thing I know is that sometimes when I break paths and then re combine them, that if I dont click the object to one of the 2 settings I dont get the checkerboard effect...if you know what I mean

For editing I prefer the polygon setting.

then polygone it is. Thanksd and maybe thats whjy I have been having issues with shapes and paths lately...BTW do you know the command to get rid of thios anchor image that somehow has shown up on my screen?
