Pool graphics? Anyone try this?

I have a client that puts in custom pools. They posed the question if there is anything we could use to produce a logo at the bottom of a pool. Is there any type of material that would last submurged over time? I have seen stuff painted before but they are thinking something that could be changed out..

Any ideas?

Use a track system as from Gemini and use changeable letters on .060. This will give you a message board under water that can be changed for copy. If you want a logo, just set the track far apart and print your logo onto rigid clear and insert that in your tracks. Again, I would use .060

As with this system being used above on land.... as long as no one messes with it.... you should be fine.

Or put your graphic down and then roll a bunch of coats of clear sealant over the whole thing, making sure the edges are water-tight. Test whatever you use first for compatability.

Why wouldn't regular vinyl work if you're talking about a pool with a vinyl liner? The adhesive and the material are both waterproof. I've never had boat graphics fail because the bottom stayed below the waterline.

This is all just speculation, I've never tried it, but I really think it would work for several years, at least.

Call 3M and ask them if one of their vinyls would work. They seem to know the answer to everything else.

I've done it before. For a family friend. Using normal Avery 700 and printed and laminated graphics. Been a year still going strong.

Did a border and the dolphins. The dolphins have been fully submerged while the border is only half way now.

Not sure about changing them. Applying direct vinyl you'd have to empty the pool every time.

Also with the border because the pool tapers I had to do it in sections and readjust to make it look all straight. That's me in the orange top

You could dye sublimate tiles to put on the bottom or sides. I have not done a tile mural yet but it's on my long list of things to do.

I would not want to try anything with vinyl graphics on a vinyl liner, what if the vinyl graphics shrink a little or the liner shrinks/expands and causes the area to pucker or worse tear the liner, I know those things are expensive... if it was like the one that Jason posted (which looks like a hard/permanent lining, I wouldn't worry so much.

Plastic or fiberglass pools are the coroplast versions of a swimming pool... at least in California. I'm thinking the custom pools you are talking about are finished with plaster (either white or colored) or Pebble-Tech coating. If it's a permanent graphic that is easy, but a changeable one?

You can embed a frame for a graphic to attach too, but the issue I see is how big are the graphics going to be?

Print, laminate & apply the logo to both sides of a rounded edge Komatex disk and toss it in the deep end.
If it starts to cup a little over time, dive in and flip it.

just use vinyl, tell them it is adversely affected by urine should something happen to the install

I'd be a little concerned that the chlorine would bleach the color out of the vinyl.
