Pre Black Friday Price Gouging Reports?

I've been pricing a new copy of AutoCAD LT 2014 for the past six months, and earlier this fall it was going for $839.00. When I went to pull the trigger last Tuesday, it had gone up to $849.00. And as of today, it's at $869.00.

I won't name any names, but it's the huge online store named after the rain forest, and that big long river.

More then likely it's this. A lot of these more specialized items are sold by 3rd parties and just use Amazon as a middle man. Pricing isn't handled by Amazon on these type of transactions. At least as far as I'm aware of.

I was a tool and die maker in a former life, and I really like AutoCAD. I would be classified as an "innovator / inventor / tinkerer", and I have all sorts of jigs and specialty tools laser cut (from steel) for my stone engraving business. I email a .dwg file, and pick up my parts a few days later.

I'm having too much fun doing what I'm doing, and I don't ever want to patent anything. But having a unique tool that another shop doesn't even know exists is a "competitive advantage" game I play.

I have a good laser cutting source, and I can usually have an idea out of my head and sitting on the table in a day or two...that's awesome fun, especially not having to fight or collaborate with co-workers over petty details.

The cost of ACAD through the reseller is still well below the $1,200 retail price if I bought it direct.

If it is still below the original retail price then buy it. I don't think it has to do with the Holidays, It is not a gift type item. I would say its a Supply and demand issue as the sellers inventory goes down the price goes up as long as they are selling if they stop selling the price dribbles down again that is business.

Yep...I'm not complaining. I'll keep an eye on it throughout the week and then see what it does for Cyber Monday (Dec. 2).

Besides printing we also sell hundreds of items on ebay and Amazon. Many products we sell had price increases in Aug/Sept. One manufacture we buy from did a price increase 2 weeks ago. So perhaps the Amazon sellers had a price increase? I was increasing prices today, yes right before the holiday but the old stock ran out 2-3 weeks ago, so we were not making money on a few items unless we change the prices. I do wish these manufactures would not do this weeks before the holiday and with no basic warning.

you're not buying something because it went up 30 dollars and is still below retail, and at the same time it's something you need for you're business here. What am i missing?

No squabbles here, I bought it anyway because it is a money maker...even if I would have had to pay the full price. I think the burr under my saddle comes from the perceived price creep prior to the black Friday carnage.
