pricing for menu changes?

and the answer is NOT " its what ever your expenses are." if you own EVERYTHING in your shop, you don't give it away for free. my question is, what do YOU all charge for changing prices, peeling numbers. cleaning and affixing back down?
if i price it at 1/2 letters, in the signcraft price book, i might as well give it away for free. $@%^%$@^!#^ cheap.
thanks....:bushmill:

We did a big set that was $400. Charge the shop minimum for the vinyl and the shop hourly rate for time removing, cleaning, installing... These things can take up more time than you think and the guy doesn't want to buy new menu boards.

What Salmoneye said.....

The first menu sign I peeled the lettering off of was only a 30 x 40 inch and took 3 hrs to clear off and remove residue. I printed a backlit for the one going on.

Now to do it again........ get a clothing steamer if this is lexan or plexi that the letters are coming off of. That same job would now take 15 to 20 min to clear and clean.

If its just a small number of changes then the material and the time to cut the lettering is almost nothing in cost but the real cost is the time to remove and apply so if you think you can do it in an hour then charge your hour rate and a bit for the cut letters.

who made the original menu with the prices? if you did, you have all the size, color and font info plus you can pre-space. if you didn't make the menu, you will need to match what is there so you'll have two trips, plus the vinyl, plus proofs, remove and install.

thanks for the input. i decided to set am "menu" charge in my POS. letters range fro .5" to 1.5" at .75 cents to 1.12 per. (shop rate on peeling and cleaning is 1.75 per minute.) of course, when you are changing three acrylic 8 foot long menu boards....
smell the alcohol!

We don't do any cut vinyl menus any more. All full digital prints, have been since the early '00s. They want a change, rip it off, print, apply. Those types of tiny jobs just aren't worth it, too fussy.

You're honestly going to quote someone at $105 an hour to remove something a monkey can do ??

Then charge by the letter or digit to re-letter it ??

That was a system that was around since the 80's but basically dropped as everyone got their own plotters and undercut each other.

Seriously, are you just changing out prices or whole words or the whole thing in it's entirety ??

Depending on how much.... it'll end up being cheaper for the guy to just get new faces and start over with someone reasonable in pricing. :frustrated:

Try a steamer, you will not believe how good it works. For that size and that many and for the $50 to $80 bucks you will never do another without it.
