Print n' Cut adjustment...

I run my VS-540 for almost 4 years now w/o issue. It prints well and for my needs, it's the best money can buy. Yesterday I had a batch of small decals to print n' cut but the cut was off a li'l so I decide to perform a print test 2 in PrintCut Adjustment menu to fix it.

The values were all to 0.00 so by refering to the manual saying where the cut line touches the printed number (value), it's the value you have to enter in Settings. The FEED was OFF by about -0.30 so I put the value there, exit from menu, reprint the test print 2 and NOTHING HAS CHANGED. ???

I decided to go way more just to see it move (I put 1.00 which is 3X more than needed according to the chart), print the test again. NOTHING. NADA. RIEN

Same result, lines are at the exact same place as 1st test. Whatever I'm doing (I even changed the SCAN value which was perfect since 1st test) and nothing has moved.

OK folks, tell me what I'm doing wrong before I'm going crazy.

Thanks

By going back in Settings, my last typed values are there so it's not like if I had skipped a "save" step, it's still there so it saved the last setting I tried...

I'm really tired so maybe I'm missing something as big as an elephant, please don't hesitate to tell me.

A tech told me to ignore the procedure the manual calls for and do it like this. It worked for me.

How to manually adjust print and cut issues
Environmental Match
1 – press menu
2 – press down arrow several times until you see environmental match
3 – press menu – THE MACHINE MUST NOT HAVE ANY MEDIA LOADED
Auto print cut Adjust
1 – press menu
2 – press down arrow key until you see print-cut adj – press right arrow key
3 – press down arrow key until you see AUTO – press enter
4 – when the screen says completed press enter and then menu
Then design a row of 1”x1” square in illustrator and put a cut line as the stroke with no offset.
Open this in versaworks and double click on the image. You can blow it up to check and make
sure the cut like looks correct on screen. If so then go ahead and print and cut the job.
If the image is still off then:
To fix TOP TO BOTTOM issues
1 – press menu
2 – press down arrow key until you see print-cut adj – press right arrow key
3 – press down arrow key until you see FEED press right arrow key. Use the up and down arrow
to make changes to the number to move the cut line UP AND DOWN. If you want to move the
cut line UP change the value to a lower (or negative) number. If you want to move the cut DOWN
change the value to a higher (or positive) number.
Press enter to accept those changes and reprint and cut the job. If the setting were to much or
not enough adjust the value (don’t forget to press enter to save the changes.
If the cut line is fine TOP TO BOTTOM then ignore this step ---- note, if the cut line is going the
wrong way change the values the other direction for example if it was at 0 and you enter 0.1 and
the cut even farther the wrong way change that 0.1 to a -0.1.
To fix LEFT TO RIGHT issues
1 – press menu
2 – press down arrow key until you see print-cut adj – press right arrow key
3 – press down arrow key until you see SCAN press right arrow key. Use the up and down
arrow to make changes to the number to move the cut line LEFT AND RIGHT. If you want to
move the cut line LEFT change the value to a lower (or negative) number. If you want to move
the cut RIGHT change the value to a higher (or positive) number.
Press enter to accept those changes and reprint and cut the job. If the setting were to much or
not enough adjust the value (don’t forget to press enter to save the changes.
If the cut line is fine LEFT TO RIGHT then ignore this step ---- note if the cut line is going the
wrong way change the values the other direction for example if it was at 0 and you enter 0.1 and
the cut even farther the wrong way change that 0.1 to a -0.1.
This last step will correct any issues with that squares print and cut. If there are issues with the
size of the cut not matching the size of the print let us know.

I'm wondering if you use the same firmware / software version 'cause I cannot do it the way it's described here...

VersaWork 5.1.1 / Firmware 2.70

My EnviroMatch is set to AUTO but it's not located where it's mentioned and also, the screen doesn't say Completed? anywhere so...

I've tried Calibration so I put down values for correction but as the test still needed top-bottom adjustment, I went back to increase the number and it was still set to "0" (previously set to -0.30%)

Damn it, burning down precious time here struggling with that :banghead:

Been there done that.......You will not see the adjustments made in that graph........do the test print 2 (under the print/cut adjustment menu), it will print out a square and cut on the right, middle and left side of vinyl. Made adjustments then reprint, you will see the movement of the cutline. repeat until you find a happy medium with all 3 cuts.

PS- It might be just test print and not test print2, not in front of the printer at the moment.

Encoder Strip

I had the same problem on my sp540. No matter what adjustment I made on the print/cut alignment there was no movement. Tech on the phone told me to wipe the encoder strip w/ a lint free cloth. Problem solved.

I've said pretty much the same thing in another thread, but often if you needed to clean the encoder strip, you need to clean the sensor/camera/laser that looks at it as well.

Our XC-540 was printing and cutting horribly, so we cleaned the encoder and it was a little better, then the sensor and it was like new again.

Decoder strip

I have to clean my Decoder strip on xc540 pro3 about every 6 months, I was told to use a cotton glove and 50% alcohol seems to do the trick.:thumb:Haven't tried cleaning the sensor/lazer yet, good idea.
