printer not printing cyan

Printer: Roland Sp-540V

Situation: Cyan not printing. Test print shows black in place of the cyan.

So I'm getting black, black, magenta and yellow in my test prints.

No drop outs, just no cyan.

BTW, I did use the search function but finding nothing on this very topic.

On the SP-540v the black and cyan inks are delivered via the same head. You are seeing what is commonly referred to as cross-contamination. I would replace the Cyan damper (at least), and captop assembly. After they're installed, run a few cleanings and you should be good to go.

Man,that's encouraging. Right now I'm running a search on this forum to find out about damper replacement.

Also trying to figure out how to get the printing heads out of the way to get to the dampers.

Black ink contamination in the cyan damper. The cause might be the cap top or the pump. Check the tube from the cap-top for clogged areas. Also check if the pump works as it should.

UPDATE: Called and talked again to my tech. He said it sounded more like one of the lines had pulled a vacuum for some reason. I did tell him that when I checked the cyan cartrige and it was empty (but gave no warning and the printer continued to print) and he said, "Then that's it". The printer continued to pull ink filling the cyan line with black ink.

I didn't even know that could happen. But I opened up the cover and used a syringe to pull ink through until it ran real good, buttoned up the machine and it works great!

Thanks everyone who contributed.

Enter the menu in "Ink Control" section. In "Empty Mode" settings, put it on "Stop". Then the printer will stop if it remains with no ink in one cartridge. If it's "Continue" selected in that mode, then the machine will print without a color, the printer ignoring the fact that is running out of ink on one or more lines.
Of course, it's the possibility that the cyan cartridge had some problems and haven't "told" the printer that is empty. In this case....:signs101:
