the router does DHCP fuctions. it will keep giving out IP addresses in the wrong subnet, unless he changes the router's setting.
DEPENDING ON THE FIRMWARE (instruction set the router runs) it will probably not devices in the WRONG SUBNET to be ROUTED (to the internet) and may keep the devices from seeing each other
THIS IS WHY I SAID it doesn;t make sense to use a router as a switch UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND THE MANY PROBLEMS YOU CAN CAUSE YOURSELF
