Printing Color Orange ??

Hello all :) I want to pickle some brains over an issue we have with an older setup...

Roland SP-540V using Versaworks 4.4.2 on an old XP windows PC.

A client sent us a PDF file with five 8x4 foot designs in it.. each has its own colored header i.e. red background with white text on top of it etc BUT and there always a BUT lol.. the orange one onscreen looks very good and vibrant

ORANGE:
C 0%
M 75%
Y 100%
K 0%

BUT its printing out more or less red like a tomato red? See image attached please. We have played around with setting and stuff but just can't seem to get a decent orange. Roland heads are clean and as you can see the other colors are pritty decent. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Orange is a very difficult color to print correctly in process color. The better your profiles are the better it'll print, but it's still a slippery slope. I would recommend reducing the magenta back from 75% to maybe 68%-ish to see what happens. Orange will easily cross the line to red if you're not careful, and you often have to adjust the amount of magenta up or down until you achieve pleasing results; you'll probably never get it perfect though. We can't even get perfect oranges on our GS6000, with G7 certified profiles and orange ink...

What worked for me was printing out CMYK color charts - after searching google I came up with http://cmykchart.com/ which includes 5% charts. In actual fact though I printed out over 70 sheets from the color copier the ones that get used are the Yellow Magenta, yellow cyan and cyan Magenta. With those 3 color charts of 400 colors each you know the spectrum of pure color your printer will do on the media you've printed them to, be it white(s), silver or Fluorescent or Gold. You can choose Spot colors all day but if its not in the spectrum you printed with color charts it never will happen. Best part is you never have the issue again.

Punch a hole in a piece of paper and overlay it over the chart so you see only the color you desire. Let your customer choose his poison - done, if customer wants something in between the 5% increments there is supposed to be included a Macro to allow I think its 200 patches in close proximity, way more than a spot color finder so you don't run round in circles. I've not needed the Macro, clients have enough with 5%.
