printing on inside of the plate

hi guys. customer walked in today with interesting request.... they want to print on the inside of the plate! I mean it is about inch deep which makes this to be unreachable for inkjet technology. anyone doing this already? anyone aware of the equipment/process? please respond. it is not mandatory to have production inhouse, outsource is fine but I am still would like to know how is could be done commercially viable.

There is probably some kind of a transfer process out there where you print onto transfer material, then heat transfer just the ink to the plate.

I sublimate plates all the time....

Provided we're talking the same kind of plate.

Has to be a sublimatable plate

Makes all the difference in the world, but pad printer comes to mind first for process.
