Need Help printing profiles & ink sets on a mimaki JV33

Forty One

Make signs they said... It'll be fun they said...
I've recently installed print profiles for our new(old) JV33-130 and am currently doing a print swatch of all the different profiles.
My ink sets are ES3. CMYK dual channel
Unaware to me, the profiles we have been testing are all for SS21.
Fixing that little hic-up, and now running the profiles for ES3.

However, I've found the choice of profiles on ES3 are limited, and actually, the SS21 profiles print much better.

So my question is, would there be any damage if I continued with SS21 profiles on the current printer config?

It wont damage anything if the only difference is the inkset.
The only thing that will chance is your colour output.
simply, your colour will be less accurate than before.

Not so simply.
Different inks have different colour gamut.
Each profile is catered to the way the inks print with ink restrictions and ink limits etc.
also then the ICC profile will be off as what the printer thinks its printing vs what it actually is will be completely different.

So you can load SS21 profiles and use them for ES3 ink? I bet I could find a few that worked for General Formulations 230 media by trial and error if I had a few hundred to choose from. Why are there no profiles for ES3 ink?

I'm using a CJV150-130 with ES3 ink.

I switched to ES3 due to the strong smell of the SS21 ink. I don't see how the ES3 ink could be any tougher btw. I can't scratch it without destroying the vinyl. "Easy to scratch" was one of the common warnings against swapping to ES3. Maybe they changed it a bit?

Here's the profile page for that model, although I took a look and there aren't nearly as many as the SS21 inks. But hopefully more than you've been able to find!

In the very beginning, the ES3 inks would scratch off a banner if you dragged it in the grass. I'd assume they have been improved since then judging by your experience.

Thanks for being so helpful... but I already have all of those.

ES3 is as tough as rhino hide. I find it drys about 6 times faster than SS21 and there is virtually no odor. You can't scratch it without ruining the vinyl. Shame it's so expensive. Have not done any banners but I can't see how it would be any different. I'll be printing banners with in a few day. I guess I'll find out.

Thanks for the info. I getting the hang of tweaking the available controls to get what I need done. Resolution, passes, density etc. Very annoying that no one mentioned the lack of profiles when I was asking the dealer about swapping to ES3 though. Need to learn how to use the color matching section.
