I have a roland sp300 versacam, and for the last few weeks it has been printing strange... It will start fine, but then the image will start scooting to right- as if the media were moving. It started doing it occasionally, but now its more often than not... Anyone have this problem before?:help

classic sign of a dirty encoder strip.

It's the thin clear strip of plastic above where the print head travels. Clean it very carefully, may want to search for the best method.

Ive cleaned it with a dry soft sponge (it was DIRTY), but im still having problems. Perhaps a more vigorous cleaning? Ill search for some methods...

Okay, I thoroughly cleaned the encoder strip... and still having problem. Could the strip be ready to replace? What other symptoms would that exhibit?

It's possible... beyond me at this point.

There are some pretty knowledgeable people on here, hopefully someone else can chime in.

Chime! :) Cleaning the exnocer strip with isopropyl alcohol i find is the best way. be sure to clean BOTH sides as the sensor that reads it, reads through it. Also, it should be cleaned completely from one end to the other, you may have to get it into cleaning mode to clean all the way to the cap area.

it is strange that many people talks about the encoder strip giving problems, I just took the time to look for it, and I found it of course, but I have had this machine for about 6 years and never cleaned this encoder strip and have had no problems at all related to this encoder strip, (except of course the most common problems like everybody else), I just wanted to share this with you, I have been probably so lucky with my printer, because I have spent about $300.00 in parts since we bought it new, and I use it very frequently. I am very meticulous about my equipment and keep it well maintained.

i'm still putting my money on the encoder strip. if i were you, i'd clean the sensor with a contact cleaner. :p
