printing with florintine gold vinyl

nashvillesigns

Making America great, one sign at a time.
wow. what a PIA.
i am trying to be able to "print" florintine gold by scanning a swatch and printing in with a mimaki.
the output is not even close.
The next step is to print ON the florintine gold.
Sigh. it prints, but the ink starts to bubble because clearly i am insane.

Does anybody have a novel way of being able to create the effect, either by scanning the material or, photoshop?

very picky customer.

Thanks!
Christopher

In my opinion without a metallic set of inks gold, silver, and polished aluminum are colors your not going to get, no matter what you do. What about printing the graphics and layering the gold overtop?

Twaddle. Just print the image on metallic silver vinyl. If you set up your image correctly by lightening up the yellow a bit, adding a **bump map to the image of the image its self, printing and laminating on metallic silver vinyl then from more than 12 inches away you couldn't tell it from real live gold leaf.

**You have to diddle a bit with the various bump map parameters to get it just right. Getting the bump map right is a big part of the whole process.

All things considered, this produces a print orders of magnitude better than using metallic inks.
