problem with auto vinyl alignment

I am trying to print on black vinyl. I printed on some Oracal a few weeks ago, but was not real
impressed with the quality - so ordered some 3m. Nice vinyl, but my Summa is saying it cannot
detect media? I get it in the printer aligned just right, then the auto alignment adjusts and
moves it way too far left crunching it up.
I have cleaned the media sensors, not sure what else to do?
Hope someone has some suggestions?

don't know about summas but with reflective in my older graphtec i have to hide the front edge with a strip of application tape for it to set up.
just a guess remove a half inch strip of the black around the edge so the sensors see the white backing paper not black vinyl.

i follow summa print threads thinking i might want one one day.
