Production House problems, cant print!

Hello everyone. I am new to these forums and I come here in hopes of getting some help. I just purchased a Mutoh 1614 printer and Flexi 8.1v1. I am very new to the software as well so it may be me and not the software..

Anyway heres what I have going so far and what my problems are.

I connect printer to router via cat 5 (on usb drivers!) I set the ip address of the printer to its local ip in the router and input that in to flexi. Whenever i add a new job to production house and click send or rip it gives me ERROR CODE -6, and nothing happens!

Note that I am using mutoh 1604 drivers because flexi didn't have the 1614, but I was told that they work. I recently downloaded an update that added the 1614 drivers, but when I goto new setup and select my printer I get the following error: "Printer description file does not exist" and "loading description file fails." I have googled both errors without even a single hit!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't no much about your printer but as a network person
"I connect printer to router via cat 5 (on usb drivers!)" This is not right.. you need a printer server for this to work.

Oh and welcome to Signs101!

Sorry I meant to say NO USB DRIVERS. I was typing fast. I guess I need to do some research on how to set up a printer server. The person that sold the machine to me simply said plug it in to the router, set up its ip, and input that in to flexi.

I was told I had to?? I have a computer near the printer, if I could connect the printer directly to an ethernet port on the PC that would make things easy. I have little to no documentation on this printer, I am thinking I will need to hire someone to come in and configure it.

Does anyone know where I may locate some information on configuring the printer? If I plug it straight in to the computer using a cat5, how do I know what ip address the printer is? When I first had it hooked up I tried plugging it directly in to the computer and inputing the ip address from the menu of the printer, but that did nothing. I dont know if I am having these problems because of the rip software or because the computer cant find the printer.

Quick Update.

In production manager whenever i try to rip or even TEST PRINT I get "Caught Exception, ERROR CODE -6."

Whenever I right click on a job and goto job properties i get the same error.

Does this sound like a software problem rather than the printer being configured correctly?

try plugging in directly into PC...if it works , then try to configure thru router

Get rid of Router for now, could be causing you grief

PS... production house is Onyx
Flexi has production manager

You can tell I need coffee. OK I got it to work via USB port; however, it seems to be printing everything at DOUBLE the size!?! I unclicked enable drivers in flexi, no change. The rip reads the file as the correct size, but when printing it is HUGE. What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance for everyones time.

Production House (in your original title) and Production Manager are two different RIPs. I would guess that you are using Flexi/ Production Manager, based on your other comments. The Mutoh Valuejets are recommended to use ethernet and not USB for their connencivity.

My guess is that the IP address on the printer itself is in a different address range than the PC. This means that both start with the same numbers, but the last number(s) will be unique. ie the PC is at 192.168.1.100, and the printer IP is set to 192.168.1.101 (or any other number up to 254). You can use the ping command from a command prompt to check the printer IP address, and use the IPCONFIG command to check the IP for the PC computer.

Do you happen to be running Windows Vista?

That error code is usually a computer problem, I have seen it a few times on a corrupt windows install.
