Professional proposals with mock-ups

I'm fairly new to the business and am starting to get requests for monument signs. Is there a program that helps you to mock up a design and then present it on a professional looking proposal that shows pricing, etc. I've seen them but don't know if they are being created in Illustrator/Corel or if there is a program that combines the design and estimating? Any direction would be appreciated

Depends on what program you or your graphics person is most comfortable with. I'm fastest with Illustrator so that's what I use. Some people use Corel, some people use Flexi-Sign. Just personal preference. I'm sure there are other programs that people use as well.

If you use Peachtree City Foamcraft to outsource these types of signs, they have pdf mockups of all of their standard monument signs.

Same here. Use as much stock/canned stuff as possible as long as it meets yours needs. Then dress it up.

Peachtree is a good outfit.

ughhhh... hoping you do more than foam signs...

I forget the program that tried to combine the 2 but
they never looked that good because they can't do both things great.

The majority of sign shops I design for use a design program
like Illustrator or Corel.

Are you going out and doing sales?
Are you the one making the design?
--- can you design?
Are you doing the estimates, and can you estimate?

Depends on how good your estimator is. Hopefully they/you
can estimate with little detail. I make presentations for various
sign shops and some really need a lot of detail in order to get a
precise estimate.

What we do is design the sign in Illustrator/CadTools. (Almost always in 11 x 17)
Do the estimate in Filemaker Pro in 8 1/2 x 11

Both layouts are templates and designed so they are uniform.

Shown below is a typical layout, (in Illustrator) though it would have a side view.
Basic callouts, measurements, and scale person. Maybe even superimpose it
where the sign would go. (I use a coro sign on a step stake to get the scale
right)

Design your estimate template in whatever estimating software to match,
that way they look like a cohesive document. Most sign shops don't
go through all that trouble, but once a template is done, it makes for a nicer
presentation.

Corel Draw seems geared well toward this kind of work. Here's a basic one.

But now that I see ricks slick title block, I think I need to update mine :)

I forgot to add, there is a book about sign
presentation but I no longer recommend it
publicly. He was here and had an implosion
of massive proportion... it's a decent book for
your needs, and might help you and your
designer make better presentations. Please note
it is flawed by what he believes the sign business
is and what good design is...

Message me if you would like to know...

Haha! I have the CD of that ebook sitting on my desk right now.

I'd sell mine for $25. It is a pretty good source of info to get started.

I was looking at it a few weeks ago thinking that subject needs a complete re-write...

It's a great book if someone has never worked in a sign shop... but when you've worked at a few...
you can see the flaws on his idea of what the sign business is. He has 1 new book about dimensional
lettering, and one coming out about attachment details... hopefully he has someone edit it for him,
though that's doubtful as he still base his original book unedited.

Professional Proposals

Thank you for the nice comment rjssigns.

That's correct. If you are working with Peachtree City Foamcraft we can provide you with .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .eps (Encapsulated Postscript), .cdr (CorelDRAW) and/or PDF versions to assist you with providing accurate and professional estimates for your customers. Our website also allows you to automatically download these versions if you are using one of our standard model designs. Or, if you are customizing one of our signs, these programs make it easy to make that happen as well.

Additionally, being that we are a 100% wholesaler to the signage industry, we are happy to provide you with other marketing materials to help you grow your business with Peachtree City Foamcraft.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like assistance.

Kind Regards,
