Question about the new Google Phone

My only complaint about it really is the battery life. My blackberry would last me 2 days, even with all the texting and web browsing I do. My iPhone, I'm lucky if it makes it through half the day. I had to get an iPod to actually be able to listen to music because with the phone, the battery drains too fast.

The texting is a little difficult to get used to but the many things it does is pretty cool. Just make sure you always have a charger and are near an outlet or computer! hah

There was a really good article on the pros and cons of the phones in like a fortune magazine I believe... And the reviews said the blackberry is where it is at. RIMM is one of the fastest growing companies and they are expanding their apps and improving the capabilities of the phones.... and that they are a lot more reliable. But then again, its mostly personal preference...

I love my iphone. It integrates seamlessly with my Mac and the address book, email, calendar, photos, itunes, etc. I am on a Mac so everything is a virtual copy. I'm not familiar with how well it does with PC's

I agree that the battery life is not so good if you play around alot with the apps. Battery life seems fine for general phone use. You can burn through the battery pretty quickly if you have the screen in full brightness and spend time using apps

Battery technology will probably fix that in the future

I found many useful apps to use when I was on vacation. Driving in unfamiliar territory I was able to use several map related apps that helped find the next rest area when driving, nearby hotels with prices, restaurants, stores, etc

My single most loved app is "icam". I can watch my shop in real time from my phone and web cam wherever I am and hear everything that's going on.

I had the original G1 and I did like it but it had the email problem that you are mentioning above with the Nexus. I guess they still havent been able to figure it out. 2 months ago I switched over to the Iphone 3gs and it is a much better phone. The email works, and none of the little qwirks that I had with the G1. The battery does go quick on the Iphone, but i can listen to music all day with it and not affect the battery too much, but if im texting and especially spending time on the internet, the battery will drain down rather quickly.

I think the coverage (as with any company) varies by company. My blackberry SUCKS compared to an iPhone. But, once again, personal opinion. AT&T covers just as good as anyone else around here, and the areas I travel to...so I'm on board with that.

What are they developing that will come out this spring? Anything online about it? I was on apple's site and saw nothing. I assume someone else covered it...but I'm wondering rather to wait a few months now..???

The iPhone continues to amaze me. I decided to make this new decade, the decade of healthy living for me. Commit to lifestyle change for the better. One app that I use daily is called MyFitnessPal. I want to get back to my 190lb weight and track every calorie I consume daily along with exercise in order to lose an average 2lbs. per week. This app does an amazing job of illustrating my diet and shows me where my eating habits went wrong.

Another app I use daily now is runkeeper. It uses the GPS tracking and shows on google earth my course along with my time, distance, pace and calories burned along with other information. Both of these apps sync with their online websites in real time and I can log onto them for more detailed information.

The GolfShot GPS app is also another amazing tool. As stated by others, battery life can get eaten up but I don't have any problems. I have a charger next to me at my office desk, one next by my lamp table alongside my couch, and a charger in my truck. And should none of these be around me, I have a portable power supply that the phone plugs into and doubles the total time of the phone.

I am totally pleased with it and I did a ton of research before I made the purchase. Only negatives from me? Wish it had 64gb of storage instead of 32gb, the inability to play flash on websites and perhaps a swappable battery. Great phone! Everyone else is desperately trying to play catch up in the market place. And I've never been an Apple fan of anything.

For the last few years, Apple has released a new phone in the spring, so the speculation is that they will do it again this year. Other than that, someone has used Bart- Bay Area Rapid Transit- with a iPhone using a 4.0 OS. The 3Gs runs 3.1.2, so the next generation is being tested.

There are several places that are talking about what apple is bringing out this year, phonescoop.com, iPhoneblog.com, smartphoneroundrobin.com, and pod casts like today in iPhone, and the iPhone blog has a pod cast.

There are lots of good things about the Iphone. But this is why I don't think I will buy another one... ITUNES SOFTWARE lags, locks, is a major resource hog, and JUST SUCKS SO BAD, non-swappable battery, poor battery performance, non-swappable memory, cannot file/group or handle pictures in any sort of logical way, calendar application absolutely sucks and I cannot locate a decent replacement calendar application in their app store, calendar app is supposed to sync with outlook on the dektop but it omits syncing some entries regularly, cannot add email folders, 3 sets of $32 ear buds in 5 months, must reset the phone about every other day or so, moving the curser position when entering text, setting the brackets when copying text, only one application open at a time, AT&T is really bad and they know it ...my list goes on and on.... and this is just my experience, there are many other that just love this phone obviously.

Now, I do like the looks of the myfitnesspal app... Thanks SignManiac! Wonder what it is going to cost?

John, do you have the 3GS, or just the first 3G? My parents both just got the 3Gs's, and they are fast, nothing like what you explain...unless you are talking about how they run on a PC. On a MAC, I don't notice any of their software hogging resources.

I should add, I too have the 3Gs and not experiencing any of the problems you're having John. Mine sync's with outlook no problems and I really like the calendar on the phone. I use it all the time for appointments and reminders.

I don't really have a need for creating folders and such. I just use my computer for all the serious computing needs. My iPhone is really used mainly for a communication and entertainment device.

Yes I do have the 3gs and I use it with a PC. I have had many tell me it is much smoother with a Mac. Re-perusing my post above it sounds like I am totally bashing the phone. It's not really too bad, I shouldn't have been quite that harsh. But I do really resent having to use Itunes as the sync conduit.

There is actually lot of good though. I love the visual voicemail. I had switched to google voice VM for a short while and I just couldn't wait to get back to the Iphone visual VM. My favorite apps are Pandora, Google Mobile, GasBuddy, SoundHound, Kayak, Police Radio, and now... MyFitnessPal.

Before the Iphone, I never owned an mp3 player, and I do fool around with some of the entertainment apps but I bought the Iphone mainly to replace my Palm 700P which I felt served me very well as a telephone and PDA.

Hate to the hijack the iphone thread.

I'm liking the nexus so far. I had a windows mobile phone before so I'm not new to smartphones. It's a very clean streamlined smart phone. Being able use it as a usb drive is great, cause I always have my phone with me.

The independent nature of the phone is a real big plus for me, it doesn't need any software to do anything with a computer, just plug it in (usb) and mount the sd card a drive an transfer files away.

I'm not sure what email troubles you guys above are having though, I haven't run into any.

The combined email is amazing, I have the accounts tied to it, and I only need to check in one place.

T-mobile coverage is kinda sketchy at my shop, so that's a bummer, but outside of here i always have good coverage.

This is really a relfection of the android os more than the phone in itself. Any issues regarding the OS will be address in a more timely manner than the Iphone OS, that's for sure though.

The hardware itself feels very nice, everything is slick. Camera phone is decent for being a camera phone. Apparently it has an fm transmitter so hopefully well see an app coming out soon to stream music to any radio.
