OK I have 2 actually
1)
I have a supplier that offers a wide range of all the gizmos and liquids that many large suppliers do not carry. They have so many items I sometimes order them just to see what they are all about.
Back in February I needed to order something but it was a small order so I needed something else to offset the delivery costs. She suggested application fluid which I rarely if ever use, but I was doing a fleet of taxis and it had striping that worked best wet and soap and water was not doing it for me. I said OK how about Rapid Tac and she said she had a different brand that cost a little less per gallon but many sign shops preferred it over Rapid Tac.
OK I said, send it. The stuff is decent and I start realizing that it allows me to move the graphics around easier than soap and water and dries much faster...Good I am sold on it.
Fast forward to last month. I ran low on the stuff so decide to order 2 more gallons.. 2 to offset the shipping costs. Should be about $100.00. The package arrives a day later , I open it up to find 1 gallon. WTF!! With shipping that sucker will cost me close to $60.00. I call and tell them they short changed me and she said I got the last bottle. I told her she should have called me and I would have waited for more as the shipping is just to much on such a small order. She said she would take care of me, not to worry. So now we never actually got an invoice for the stuff but we put everything on my Visa card. Today the statement shows up and I see the charge. $88.00!!!!
I was sure this stuff was about $38.00 a gallon so I go find there catalogue and search and sure enough it's $38 and change. I call and ask her nicely why I was charged $55.00 for a gallon of application fluid. She started rhyming off this whole Canadian dollar BS to me so I said, even with a 30% exchange rate it would have only been $46.00 not $55.00, and had they called me right from the start I never would have ordered it. I can buy Rapid Tac with a 5 minute drive and no delivery charges for about $40.00
I don't want to say who it is as they used to be very professional and decent to deal with, but now I am not so sure. they are located strangely in a very small community far from large cities which is even stranger.
OK now for my second Rant....
I get a call for a price for some stencils 2 weeks ago. I have done work for this customer once or twice over a 3 year period. They do some sort of high epoxy floor finishes and I generally cut them a stencil using paint mask. They need 10 "stops". I price it and she sends me a PO Friday afternoon and it is due on the Monday!! OK I look around for paint mask and I have not nearly enough so I thought I have no time to order it so I see I have digital white removeable white that we used for race cars and I cut them out and premask them. OK all done Monday. We call and let them know they are ready...they say they will send someone before the end of the day. Nobody shows but that's typical in this biz.
Call them Wed to remind them that the stencils are good to go and yes someone will pick them up before the end of the day...No one shows again, no big deal they obviously don't need them yet. I was going to go on a small golf vacation (3 day) Friday and the office would be shut at 1:30. We call, and let these people know that and again nobody picks them up.
I am on the course Friday afternoon about 100 miles away and I get a call from the graphic designer who rents an office from me. he tells me some guy called him looking for me and that he is at my office to pick up some stencils and the door is locked. I told him to give me his number and I call him, and listen to his lecture on how I don't run a company witrh normal business hours and he has to have these stencils for Saturday as he is doing this special install and has hired security and cleared the plant to finish the floor. I told the guy that I was golfing and on vacation and I had no intention of coming back to open the door for him. Again he mentions to me how my irregular hours ( I closed early on a freakin Friday) are unprofessional.
I told him we called 3 or 4 times and even called to let them know that we would be leaving early Friday. he claims to never have gotten any of the messages from his secretary. I said, THATS SOUNDS UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
OK I told him I would make some calls and get back to him. A-hole ruining my golf round... I arrange to have my secretary (sister) come in for him at 7am sat so he can have his stencils.
He was greatful as he should be and picked them up and my sister even gave him a squeegee.
Oh, it does not end there.
I receive a text Saturday afternoon while golfing once again. A text from my sister that he called and is now complaining that the vinyl will not stick and the premask does not come off. The guy even makes a video and sends it to my phone. I watch this 2 minute video and start laughing as I watch this so called installer apply the graphics. He peels the vinyl off the backing paper and eyeballs it on the floor then I watch in amazement as he squeegees it with the back of his hand or his knuckles.... yea that will really stick well to that rough concrete surface. Needless to say I have a feeing my cheque will bounce, but he never called today to complain. Just waiting for his call.
