Rapid Tac On Race Car

Hey guys new here, I am putting numbers on a dirt late model, there are a few rivets where the vinyl will go if I use rapid tac to help lay the vinyl down will it hinder being able to tuck the rivets in or will help me be able to get them tight around the vinyl. The vinyl is pretty large that is why I am going to use rapid tac to help me get it on there without any bubbles. The vinyl is Griff Orange Chrome and the transfer tape is R tape if that helps any. of course it will mess you up around the rivet. there is no air release on the chrome? Usually when i do chrome with no air release I just laminate it on top another vinyl with air release and then cut it. Its easy to lay it after plus to take it off is a MILLION times easier and faster

okay, so you would recommend the hinge method, it is a number 22x28 not a full car wrap just the number.

Maybe take the rivets out, lay the vinyl and put the rivets back.

If you can remove rivets definitely do! Yes you can hinge it. If I find myself in that situation I just apply as if the rivet isn't there (more pressure and holding vinyl as taut as I can) then deal with the rivet area. Not much stretch to chrome vinyl unfortunately.

I have done alot of dirt race cars. Never applied wet. I would try to position the numbers to miss the rivets if possible. Wet application will work, but not around the rivets. Most cars I have done have rivets across the top and bottom of the door panel. Hardly ever in the number area. If you could miss the rivets by slightly downsizing the number, do it.

Griff films are metallic polyester. They will not conform over rivets whatsoever.

As a racer myself, and someone that does a lot of race cars, I always do dry apply. Rivets are a pain, most guys are using bolts now a days, some still use rivets, and bless the guys that use bolts!

Ive done the wings on the Mini outlaw carts with rivets, and i just do a normal lay down.starting on one end and finish on the other,Smooth all the flat areas first ,then with a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting,warm the vinyl and use a RIVET BRUSH and go around the rivets till its laid down.Hugs it real tight when finished and looks good.

Great tips from all. We run a dirt sprint car, has no rivets but the late models need the rivets taken out. Mylar chromes are not at all used over rivets. take out the rivets, they will shake loose anyway, if they don't get totally rubbed off in turn 1 or 4! Before air release chromes, we had to go under any fasteners or cut out holes for the heads. Good luck with that.
