Oldie but goodie. Spawned a term I use "don't be a pencil". If a co-worker or freelance buddy is complaining about something like this I just say "don't be a pencil" and they get the point, pardon the pun.

I haven't laughed so hard in a while.
I really like the mouse cursor metaphor, because that is how I feel doing logo designs sometime. They don't want you to really design but to channel to you all the vague crap in their head and make it look good.
